Go to the official site and get the latest version of OpenOffice(3.3.0)

    https://www.openoffice.org

or try LibreOffice which is a development of OpenOffice:

Bill Gates didn't get rich by giving away free copies of MS Office...
LibreOffice is the way to go.
No free lunch, and no free laptop ;)
  • I'd go for LibreOffice over OpenOffice, although they are essentially the same thing, there's likely to be more development and support with the LibreOffice release in future.

OpenOffice is great but if you want a free version of Microsoft Office you can get that too as the 2010 Starter Edition. Download the files (30 of them) individually and it'll work fine. Just save them all to the one folder:

Execute (double click) 'SetupConsumerC2ROLW.exe' to install once you've saved all 30 files.

And -for MSE Mods- there's nothing dodgy or illegal about this, these files are intended for people reinstalling. I'm sure that's exactly what people will do.

And my favourite very basic 'Word' type program is: www.abiword.com

If she has a student e-mail, you can get the full pack (excel, word, powerpoint etc) for just under £40 from software4students.
