I have found this great website https://www.freecycle.org. It is a site where people who no longer want stuff, pass it on to someone else for free. You can place your own ad for anything that you would like, or you can offer anything you like, all for free. Just click on your part of the country, and get started.

great stuff all round but I have an old fridge freezer which I intend to take to the local dump....any one got any ideas of anything I could use it for instead? It's nice to be important but it's important to be nice!
If u think my post has been helpful, push my 'thanks' button cheers0 -
if you grow runner beans you might like to try this.
dig a fairly deep trench and line with loads of newspaper,
water the newspaper until really soaked.
then cover with a few inches of soil and plant your runner bean plants.
water as normal, you'll find the newspaper holds the water and stops the roots from drying out,
you should get a bumper crop0 -
cornerclose wrote:If you are replacing a carpet you can use the old one as a weed supressing mulch instead of the usual plastic. This works well around shrubs and trees which are out of sight, and pieces can be put around cabbages etc which also helps keep out cabbage root fly. It won't stop the perennial weeds like ground elder and convolvulus but its great for supressing the annuals, and helps conserve water too.
I've also used old carpet to cover compost which is rotting. It stops the birds pulling it about and again keeps moisture in.
I would seriously think carefully about this . Foam backed carpets, the foam disentgrates and gets into the soil, not very nice, not very ecological. Also some dyes from carpets gets leached into the soil. Again not very nice.0 -
To make leather or suede floor cushions.
go to local charity shop. Find old leather or suede skirts.
Go to cheap home-maker shop and buy either cushion pads if skirt is small or pillows if skirt is long. If thin, I would suggest around 3 or even 4. Take an awl, make holes in bottom of skirt. take piece of cord and `sew' the ends closed. Instand durable floor cushions. I have two which make great floor cushions. Shop - at least £50 each. Home - around £5?0 -
Cut one leg off the pair of tights, stick a tennis ball in the foot, tie the other end to the washing line or tree branch or similar......instant tennis game for the kids!!0

Mine is currently helping some lavender seeds to germinate, whilst alongside, the leeks are coming along nicely in an old croisant box!
Best thing about these two as well? The food was a gift for the office from a departing colleague, so free food and then free growing containers as well!:T :j
I love this idea! My husband takes a muffin to work every day with his lunch so i do buy these every week :T

I had a similar idea I bought a selection of shirts skirts and trousers from the charity shop and a second hand 70's long footstall and removed the top (it was a white vinyl buttoned job - nice  !) and painted the feet, cut a piece of foam to fit, covered with wadding on top to produce a slightly rounded more modern look and then made a cover out of large suede patchwork squares as you have described - it gets dragged out every summer whenever there aren't enough chairs and some lucky chappy lounges on it! It is much admired!!!!Thanks to MSE, I am mortgage free!

Use old plastic bottles (any kind, the bigger the better) pierce a few holes in the side with a skewer or summat, then fill with water and lay on its side near your plants. The water will drip out ever so slowly and keep your plants watered! May be worth doing an experiment first to see just how long it takes for the bottle to empty. :cool2::TProud to be dealing with my debts :T0
