You've done the most loving thing you could for Akira. You've been so brave.

Good God, that poem just floored me!! How lovely, I've printed it out already. It puts into words what I can't find the words to say.

OP - Your fabulous Akita obviously had a wonderful life as part of your family and will NEVER be forgotten. Don't feel pressurised to have to hurry your grieving along or replace your gorgeous friend straight away. I'm a great believer in fate and allowing time to progress at its own pace.

I will be thinking about you often today as I look at that poem.

I know you cared deeply Mr Wang and it has been difficult in the past few weeks for you, but she's now free from pain and I hope you can take comfort from the happy years you shared together and that you took the right decision when the time came.

When you feel able, there are many Akitas in rescue as they are a difficult dog to place. It would be a tribute to your girl to give your love and experience of this breed to another needy dog x

A million things flew through my mind, suddenly her life was in my hands - So was her pain.
The decision was actually really easy, suddenly the fact it would break my heart or that of my kids took second place to what was best for my dog, Akira.

This had me in tears - this sums up exactly the hardest part of owing pets. So sorry for your loss - rip Akira such a beautiful dog.

Brings back having to go through the same thing with my dogs and horses - never easy - remember the good times xx

have just burst into tears reading that poem, and here I thought I was holding it all together well. We had to have our beloved dog put to sleep just before christmas and my heartfelt sincerest condolences are being sent your way. Your post was so lovingly written and you put into words, so nicely, the massive responsibility you feel as an owner to make the right decision. It is sooooo hard but sooooooo rightx

I would like to add my sympathies to the others on here. I lost my girl in July last year and still cry over here sometimes. It is a very hard and brave thing we have to do sometimes but our pets deserve us to be strong for them, considering what they give to us every day of our lives.

I didn't get half way through reading your post and I am sat here in tears. It has brought back the memories of that awful day as I was in your position 7 months ago (it was the hardesy and most upsetting thing I have ever had to do) and I still cry daily for my 'special' Yorkie who was 13 years & 9 months old.

I am so sorry for your loss, Akira was a beautiful dog (lovely name too). RIP Akira
