As stated above, a UK company should be registered with the FSA. Unless you can tell us their name (so we can identify the status of the company) or if its from a UK based company we wont be able to answer your question.

Even if you remembered that Z was Zurich, or whatever, that would not be enough because they would have a wide range of products across a number of divisions within the "Z" group...

You MAY be dealing with an ordinary UK-based organisation. Or, you MAY be dealing with an Offshore/International division within the "Z" Group. In which case, different rules will apply. Including whether or not the FSA applied.

Until we know the precise company name and precise product name, preferably with a website link (which being a reputable company they will undoubtedly have) in order to examine the company/product, we cannot reach a definitive conclusion.

No-one here wants to give you duff information based on partial details, that leads you down the wrong path, and causes you to come back here in 6 months ranting about how inaccurate this forum is...

Offshore companies dont have to be authorised by the FSA and UK residents can invest into them. Is this some Guernsey, Isle of Man or Dublin based investment company?

Just because it doesnt have FSA authorisation, doesnt mean it isnt legal. However, it would at minimum put you on guard as there are plenty of scams out there and none of them are FSA authorised.

should be is not yes they have to be to offer this.
you should drive within the speed limits I very much doubt that is always the case.

If your father is away, why don't you call up one of the other people you know who have dealt with this company and ask them? You've given so little information and you seem very upset that, given what you have said, no-one is prepared to give you the answer you want.
