Open Vodafone mobile broadband account

I bought a vodafone dongle for broadband about 18 months ago but failed to get a decent signal so took back the next day and cancelled the contract. However the account is still listed as open on my credit file and its listed to my previous address. Is this going to cause problems with credit applications?
I've emailed them but they replied saying they were unable to locate the account. Then said they need address, account number, method of payment & recently dialed numbers none of which I have. I signed up in-store and didn't keep any letters.
Do I need to cancel?
