Hospital Parking Ticket

Options
After a late running appointment for my young son at the hospital, I got a ticket (despite the consultant saying I had nothing to worry about). The hospital dept wrote an appeal letter which I included with my own. This was October and in November the letter was returned to sender, unopened! I rang the contact number but have never heard back. What do I do ? I really don't want a bigger nastier bill in a month or so, but don't know where to go from here !

Who is this ticket from ?

You say Hospital ticket , which suggests a private parking company , if this is the case you can just ignore them !

I got a hospital "ticket" for overstaying just this morning. I am looking forward to IGNORING it, and you should too :)

(Again, assuming this is a private ticket. Do you still have it? Does is say "Parking Charge" or "Penalty Charge". If it's the former, ignore it and any silly threatening letters they send)
One important thing to remember is that when you get to the end of this sentence, you'll realise it's just my sig.

What? This is a fake PCN so no advice needed other than 'ignore it'. That's what this part of the MSE forum is about, that's what the sticky threads at the top explain.

Scam, ignorable trash. Newbies please see my signature and click at the top of the page in the link mentioned, to view the current forum and read the stickies at the top. Watch the Watchdog clip on 'welcome, please read before posting'. Look at the pics of threatograms on 'PPC letters & threats'. Easy.

Relax. Gawd knows why a Hispital Dept don't know that their own car park tickets are crap that can just be ignoired. What a waste of time to write an 'appeal' (LOL!!! Thought Doctors were intelligent - it's as if they believe there's a real appeals process to this scam just because the FAKE PCN says there is!!).
PRIVATE 'PCN'? DON'T PAY BUT DON'T IGNORE IT (except N.Ireland).

Yes it is and the company concerned are behaving in a wholly deceptive and potentially fraudulent manner by using the term "penalty".

    IGNORE them.

They may write you lots of letters and get a debt collector to do similar and they may threaten a court action but it is all bluff.

They would be foolish in the extreme to attempt any actual action as it would fail spectacularly and leave them open to serious questions from Trading Standards re their deceptive use of the term "penalty"

Private Companies can NOT issue PENALTIES.

    IGNORE IGNORE IGNORE

Another facilities company jumping on the PPC bandwagon, if it says "civil penalty" on it, it's an own goal!

    Ignore it!

In this instance I don't think this is quite the right advice.

Absolutely don't pay it. You shouldn't have to and you don't have to.
Don't bother with any formal appeals process, as there is nothing formal to appeal.

But I do think that it is something worth taking up with the hospital / PALS.
For every person who gets a ticket and comes on here and ignores it, there will be many others (especially if you consider the hospital-going demographic in terms of older people) who will just pay it.

Anything the OP can do to stop others getting tickets in the future has got to be a god thing.

Not only is it a private ticket, they have been very naughty in using the word "penalty". In the extemely unlikely (and that really is very very unlikely indeed) chance they tried to take you to court over this, it would be thrown straight out, as penalties are not allowed under contract law (which is the regime under which your invoice for payment is issued). You are quite safe to ignore any further correspondence you receive over this, be it from the original parking company, or anyone claiming to be a debt collection agency or solicitor.

It is an invitation to pay a private invoice, you can decline it and there is very little they can do about it other than send you lots of silly letters.
If a fee was due for parking and they specifically ask for the fee you did not pay, then send some stamps to cover the fee you should have paid, note this is the parking fee not the penalty charge, so if it was £1 per hour and you overstayed, send them £1 of unused stamps.
Do not place any NAME on anything or SIGN anything.
If they pursue to ask for the penalty, ignoring them is the best advice in the house, you can not appeal it will fail, this is a scam and they have no legal right to charge you any penalty, if you pay, they usually come back for more scam money in late payment charges, so be warned.
