Home Telecom??

Me and my boyfriend are renting a house for 6 months, moving into it in roughly 10 days.

We need to sort out our internet - we both download quite a bit so we need something decent, no dongles.

Our estate agent included an attachment in one of their emails about a company called Home Telecom (hometelecom.co.uk) and they do look very good - £23 a month for line rental and unlimited broadband (no wireless router charge as we're students) which they can try to set up for when you move in.

Not really heard of them before though. Anyone heard of them or have any advice?

    See their website.
They 'work with letting and estate agents'-which means that your EA is recommending them because he will get a commission.
Basically they are just another BT reseller.
Check the minimum contract term, almost all line rental contracts are 12 (except the PO).
Is there already an active landline installed? If not you'll have to pay to get that reconnected.
No free lunch, and no free laptop ;)

That's why we've looked into them - they do a 6 month contract, only other decent broadband provider we've found that would do 6 months is O2, and they charge for a wireless router/set up fees etc.

At the moment we're unsure, but we think we'll need to have the phoneline at the house reconnected. We were just unsure really as like I said I've never heard of Home Telecom before.

Lots of ISP's do 30 day rolling contracts, but you do pay more. The problem is the line rental contract. The wireless router is not really relevant, as you can get one on eBay for a tenner.
BTW, no BT reseller will offer you 'unlimited' broadband-there is an FUP in place on Option 2:

We've looked into 30 day, 3 month and 6 month contracts - most are priced way too high and also include huge set up costs. I'm aware that everything 'unlimited' has a FUP, but their FUP is way more than we'd ever use.

This thread was basically just to ask if anyone had used it before and whether it looked legit.
  • Even though there is a fair usage policy of 75GB they don't actually charge if you go over. Its just on there from where they used to do it. If you call them and ask you will see that they can give you the answers straight away instead of going round in circles like other providers!
