Your former employer isn't trying to prosecute you to cover up any dodgy dealing on their part, are they? It's not unknown and I came across it during my time as a policeman.
Theft is a very serious allegation to make and unless your former employer has the evidence to prove all the points required by Sections 1-7, Theft Act 1968, any prosecution is doomed to failure. I find it very strange that the police aren't involved. This is what makes me suspect you're being used as a fall guy for someone else's misconduct. Also, your solicitor has told you the CPS would throw the case out at an early stage. That tells me there is either insufficient evidence or none at all. The fact that your former employer is pursuing a private prosecution reinforces this conclusion. Is the reason they want to pursue a private prosecution because the police and CPS would find out something they don't want them to find out about? Do you know something that would send anyone who works for your former employer to prison?
My advice to you is to go back to your solicitor and discuss with him or her whether it would be advisable asking the police to look into the matter. If you know something dodgy has been going on, then I'm afraid you have a duty to report it to the police.
Don't let your former employer walk all over you. Stand firm. Go back and see your solicitor. You are innocent until proven guilty and the onus is on your employer to prove their allegations beyond all reasonable doubt. If they cannot, then you have grounds for suing them for damages for -
Defamation of Character and Reputation
Malicious Prosecution
Harassment
Breach of Contract (Discuss with solicitor)
Breach of Trust and Confidence
You are, unfortunately, out of time to take your former employers to an Employment Tribunal for Unfair or Wrongful Dismissal. Any case to be determined by an Employment Tribunal has to be brought within three months of the date your employment ended.
Please let us know how you get on and I wish you every success in bringing about a just and positive outcome of this case in your favour. All the best.0 -

Hi everyone.
It's been a while. My trial started on Tue this week and concluded today with a NOT GUILTY verdict.
This has been the worst week of my life but it is now over and I have my life back again.
Just wanted to update everyone before I start job hunting again.
Thankyou once again for all your help and support.0 -

Hi.
OK well my former employer was a rather well known company that operates on many high streets selling stamps. I don't want to go into too many details of the case exactly suffice to say that it could have happened to any one of my colleagues in any branch.
I really want to put all this behind me now and concentrate on getting a job.
I had an interview before the court case and the owner listened to what I said and did not flatly refuse to employ me even after I told him of the dismissal and the court case. He wrote to me saying that once this was all cleared up to contact him. So that is what I will do tomorrow.0
