BT Salesperson Ordered New Phone Line in my Name!

I received a call from the complaints department in Doncaster today. It appears that Shabuddin Shail is not a salesperson but a someone on the technical side of BT. He is a BT employee with a BT ID code and may well have greater access to BT ordering systems than frontline sales staff.
I am trusting that BT will now resolve this issue and that I will not have any further problems as a result of this incident.0 -
You may never know for sure, but it may be that this is a sign of security issues at a datacentre rather than a call centre.
I know from personal experience (at a company other than BT) that datacentre operators often employ foreign contract staff to do the technical work of maintaining systems - and that these staff typically have full root/admin access to every server that they look after. Essentially it means that they can do pretty much anything they like on any system, and because they have access to a local terminal they can (if they know what they are doing) eliminate almost all traces of what they have done on the system.
And I'm not picking on the foreign aspect to have a go at foreigners, but because in practice it's much harder to check the criminal record of someone from outside the UK.0 -
I think you could be right, fwor, but I don't think I will ever really know what happened. At least I am now convinced that BT are taking this matter seriously; I just hope there will be no further frauds resulting from this incident - that is my biggest worry.
I am certainly going to take extra steps to ensure that credit accounts cannot be opened in my name in future.0 -
As a "last" resort should your formal complaint hit a dead end..
Have you thought about giving your story to the Newspapers?
The Daily Mail would love this story (as it ticks all the boxes), if I remember correctly I think they ran a story similar to this a few years back.

I am pretty sure BT are doing all they can now. The order has definitely been canclled and I have a direct contact number for a named person in complaints who discussed this matter with me in depth today - 75 minutes on the phone!
They can see this was a fraudulent order; my only worry now is that Shaik may use by identity to make other account applications, though I think he really knows very little about me.0 -
I had hoped this matter was over, but I have received three communications from BT - two requests to return the BT Homehub 3 and one request to register an account on-line.0

Yesterday evening I spoke to Linda Whitaker at BT complaints, Doncaster. Ms Whitaker told me during our 75 minute conversation that Sabuddin Shaik had placed the order in my name without my consent and that there was no record whatseover of me contacting BT to place any order. She agreed that Mr. Shaik should be given the sack.
Today, a manager in a call centre in Bangalore told me that Linda Whitaker had written notes against the order, saying that, as I had provided account details, the order was not fraudulent! This is clearly a contradiction. As there was no BT account at the time the order was fraudulently made and there is no record of me contacting BT, how could I have possibly provided BT with account details?0 -
Recveived a call from Umesh Ajarwal who is based in India. Mr. Ajarwal is the manager I spoke to on 14/01 who claimed that the order was not fraudulent as it had been placed on bt.com - clearly indicating that sales staff were not involved in fraudulently raising that order and the inference being I had placed the order myself.
It was not clear for the reason why Mr. Ajarwal called to day other than to say that I have reported this to various people - including BT security, where a crime reference was raised.
Mr. Ajarwal said he would be looking into who had placed the order; clearly he does not believe staff in the UK who have said that the fraudulent order was placed by Shabuddin Shaik and he clearly has not looked into this since since I spoke to him on 14/01. Other staff in India have confirmed to me that Sabuddin Shaik recorded this order - they can see that information from BT records - surely, Mr. Ajarwal can see that too?0 -
Although two BT staff have, individually, told me that an account was fraudulently opened in my name, BT Security is now denying evidence of any fraudulent activity in opening an account in my name!0

Today, I received a final bill from BT for this fraudulent accout - a total of £6, for delivery of the Home Hub 3 (that I did not order)0
