Amazon prevent you exercsing your rights against their "Market Place" sellers

Options
I notice question of the week this week said that you have full statutory rights when buying from Amazon Market Place sellers. However, if such a trader refuses to honour your consumer rights, Amazon will not provide their contact details, so you cannot pursue them. I took this issue up with Trading Standards, but apart from a patronising description analogy of Amazon Market Place with a supermarket notice board, they were unwilling to help. They basically said that there is nothing to stop Amazon behaving in this way.

What is the problem? If you raise a dispute with a marketplace seller and they do nothing Amazon will normally refund you.

Or is this just a vent?

And are you saying they are wrong?

Sorry, but you have posted on the wrong board.

Amazon would not help. The problem is that I was sold faulty goods and was unable to obtain a refund from the vendor. Sorry, I assumed that was obvious from my post that I had a consumer rights issue.

Not sure I understand your "vent" question.

Yes I do think this is wrong, as their refusal to provide me with the supplier's details prevent me from enforcing my statutory rights.

No need to apologise. Which board should I have posted this on? I thought this was the consumer rights board and I thought that was appropriate for a consumer rights issue.

The above posters are thinking this should be on Praise, Vents and Warnings. :)

Have you reverted to Amazon to say the seller is not cooperating? Like Hintza says Amazon would normally refund you.

The Googlewhacker referance is to Dave Gorman and not to my opinion of the search engine!

    Hello whosforachat,

This isn’t true and the sad thing is TS should know this. Because amazon charge the seller to advertise in their store and then receive a commission on the sale of the product Amazon are acting as an agent, unlike a supermarket notice board.
I can’t see why you would have any problem getting your money back from amazon as they usually just claim it back from the seller.
But if you did want to take it further with the seller and amazon will not give you and contact information for the seller (which they don’t have to) send all your correspondents to the seller through amazon.

Thanks clsmac. Judging by Amazon's attitude, I am guessing they would not pass the correspondence on. What could I do then?

Send it, seller name C/O Amazon address, but the best way would be to ask for a refund from amazon with a complaint against the seller. This should do the job make sure in your complaint you refer to Amazon as the agent.
