Anyone use an all elec wet heating system?
I am looking for peoples average monthly elec bill for winter months for a 2 bedroom bungalow or similar. Property is double glazed and already has the system in place brand new so no previous bills to go by.
I am aware that this can be difficult to tell and so many factors etc but i just need some guidelines really.
I understand that i can work it out by how long its on for but I have no idea at all as to how long it would be on for.

I think you've answered your own question. A working couple out all day and most evenings will use vastly less energy than a retired couple at home all day and with the heating up high.
There is no meaningful average.
All electric heating is always going to be expensive compared to any other method..No free lunch, and no free laptop0 -
Thanks for your reply
Well we work all day and will be in most evenings.
This is the first time leaving from parents and really dont want to make a massive error in planning for the bills.
But having no guidelines doesn't help at all.
Am i looking at £30 - £60 a month , 60 - 90, 100 - 140,0 -

Find your tariff i.e 12p/kWh and every week find how many units you have used since last week let's say 230kWh and multiply the two together (£28) and put that much money aside for when the bill comes.:footie:Regular savers earn 6% interest (HSBC, First Direct, M&S)
Loans cost 2.9% per year (Nationwide) = FREE money.

2 bed bungalow....electric heating...Wild guess really but I'd go for £90 a month when averaged over 12 months. Maybe £30 a month in summer and £150 a month in winter. If you read the meter regularly i.e every week then you can estimate the bill much sooner than waiting months for the bill to arrive to find it is double or half what you were expecting.

Thanks this is what i was after. Cheers0 -
Just thought i would say how i have been getting on
Moved in last Friday and installed a wireless energy monitor.
My daily readings are between 20kw and 30kw since then which seems to be about right to me.
Heating is a 10KW unit that aslo does our hot water tank too.
I'm on economy 10 package too so I make sure my main heating and hot water heating is done in those times.
It has been relatively cold outside as well
Time will tell and I will let you know how i have been getting on in a couple of weeks.0 -
Hi. Thought i would do an update for anyone thats interested.
The bungalow is 65m². 2 bedrooms, Small bathroom, Hallway, Living room, Kitchen and Dining room. We have all doors open for the cat to wonder (plus he hates it when any door is shut)
Im still on economy 10. My monthly DD is now £85 for my electric but we were cold last year with the heating as was being very cautious. Rarely got above 17 degrees in the bungalow as I could just see the KW's appearing on my energy monitor.
We both work normal hours so no need for heating during the day. I try to wait till 8pm to put main heating on as thats when we get off peak rate for 2 hours!
The boiler does my hot water 117 litre water tank as well.
Unfortunatly my timer only has 2 times that you can use to do both or one or none. i cant have hot water separate to my heating unless i do it all manually. Seems silly really.
Also seems silly to heat up the hot water tank twice a day.
Radiators are old and half are singles with no fins. Room stat is above radiator in hallway so i have shut that radiator off.
Heating the tank up once a day I on average use 5.5kw.
Heating it up twice a day its more like 9kw.
What i would like is heating at 2 times a day and hot water at one time a day. No way of doing it!
Thinking this year just using the boiler with timing for hot water and heating for the morning then using convectors heaters for the evenings!
I unfortunately cannot make any changes to the setup as I am renting but i don't really want to be cold this year.0 -
Sounds like a lot of money to heat your water. Have you got a jacket on the tank - if not go out and get two and put them both on, one on top of the other. If you have one already or the tank is insulated put another one over it. You could turn the temperature down a bit especially if its quite hot. We only heat our water to 45 degrees (200l tank) and can get away with about 2.5kw a day (although that's with a heatpump).
Although you are renting, why don't you change the timer (keep the old one for when you move out). You could get a wireless programmable thermostat to improve the heating control (again keep the old one for when you move out). Closing a few doors could also save a few bob, unless you are happy to pay over the odds just to keep the cat happy:(Never under estimate the power of stupid people in large numbers0 -

Haha, You don't know how true this is - my cats have their own oil filled radiator. They pack their bags and threaten to move out if it's not on :eek:0 -
Thanks ill look into one of those jackets. Mine has a foam one as standard so will add a jacket to help.
Looking up programmable thermostat with times now.
He's likes to sit on the windows sill in the spare room and look out the window!0 -

I was under the impression that new builds had to have an energy performance certificate - which might give you an idea.0
