Anyone use an all elec wet heating system?

There are millions of newer B.S standard kitemark cylinders that are rubbish and only just managed to scrape through testing. Most of the older [existing buildings] yellow foam PartL cylinders were of a good insulation standard. A minimum standard 60 or more mm thick additional segmented wrap with 50 micron PVC covering, glass fibre infill will always add to the caspacity to 'leak' less. Make sure its kitemarked for fire and get the right length and circumference. Most of the money wasted is in the uninsulated runs of hot warer pipework. As for the "silly to heat up the hot water tank twice a day", this is a personal decision, the odds are if the re-heat / top-up did not happen, then full price core rate might be needed to maintain the required temp. In an ever increasing world of energy costs, insulation of any kind, is the best money you never wasted.
Best of luck.Disclaimer : Everything I write on this forum is my opinion. The bungalow is 65m². 2 bedrooms, Small bathroom, Hallway, Living room, Kitchen and Dining room. We have all doors open for the cat to wonder (plus he hates it when any door is shut)
Im still on economy 10. My monthly DD is now £85 for my electric but we were cold last year with the heating as was being very cautious. Rarely got above 17 degrees in the bungalow as I could just see the KW's appearing on my energy monitor.
We both work normal hours so no need for heating during the day. I try to wait till 8pm to put main heating on as thats when we get off peak rate for 2 hours!
The boiler does my hot water 117 litre water tank as well.
Unfortunatly my timer only has 2 times that you can use to do both or one or none. i cant have hot water separate to my heating unless i do it all manually. Seems silly really.
Also seems silly to heat up the hot water tank twice a day.
Radiators are old and half are singles with no fins. Room stat is above radiator in hallway so i have shut that radiator off.
Heating the tank up once a day I on average use 5.5kw.
Heating it up twice a day its more like 9kw.
What i would like is heating at 2 times a day and hot water at one time a day. No way of doing it!
Thinking this year just using the boiler with timing for hot water and heating for the morning then using convectors heaters for the evenings!
I unfortunately cannot make any changes to the setup as I am renting but i don't really want to be cold this year.
Our monthly electricity is coming in at £80 for a two-bed mid-terrace with double glazing/cavity wall insulation plus a loft conversion. The bedrooms have triple glazing. We have a 6-radiator electric boiler (down-rated to 6KW) based wet CH system with a programmable timer/thermostat. Heating is 14C when unoccupied and either 20C or 21C when occupied. Hope that helps. Does that £80 a month cover your usage for the whole 12 months = £960., cost depends on your consumption & tariff and are you actually covering your bills. A more meaningful measure is your annual consumption in kw/hNever under estimate the power of stupid people in large numbers0 -
Here ya go for the last 12 months
3932.17 kWh at standard energy rate
4018.83 kWh at off-peak energy rate.0 -
I know this is a hard question to answer but
00:00 - 05:00 off peak
13:00 - 16:00 off peak
20:00 - 22:00 off peak
I work 8:30 - 5:00
Would it be best to turn on the hot water + heating (in winter) at 4:00am and off at 7:00am so that I use 1 hour of off peak tarrif.
Again turn hot water + heating on at 15:00 and leaving it on till say 22:00 so that i get 1 hour of inital warmup of the system in off peak0 -
