They've got two salaries coming in and six months on the inside to find somewhere else. I'm not sure that the time to panic is today. Plenty of time to save up for their onward move.0

The fact that these premises are being bought by companies is a clear signal that the NHS is slowly become being prioritised. but i suppose this is a different matter. we are not panicking yet. I am merely saying that this thing has happened and was UNEXPECTED and plans were made or being made.
If the council accepts us as "non-priority" then we will just have to go to the key workers scheme or a website for help then. plenty of time yes but money is limited.0 -
Or privatised, even! Please don't wrory just yet. They've given you notice and quite decent notice at that. Nothing can compel you to leave this property except a court-order. A court-order which it could take them many months to acquire, depending on how busy the courts are. I've heard that the courts in London are very busy, especially with teenage looters. Every month that goes by is another month you are closer to saving for another property.0

Sorry i meant being "privatised". Lol.
Yes i agree with you BitterandTwisted. We have decided: my wife will concentrate on Rightmove.com whilst i will get some help & info with the Peabody Trust people. our "third choice" will be the council.0 -
I'm back and wanted to re-start this thread. Now, I want to re-kindle the eternal question of which borough and which place to go to.
As you might know I live between in Stockwell & Vauxhall just off South Lambeth Road. Because of the "dangers" of gangs and incidents of stealing/muggings/shootings in and around the area especially leading to Stockwell tube station and Oval station then we are moving out and wanted to try something else.
What do you guys think of Wimbledon I.e. north or south. I'm thinking of somewhere near the train station (the overground going to either Waterloo station or London Bridge station where I work) or near the tube station so I and the missus (who works in Chelsea) can easily access the underground.
Or is there any area you guys can suggest which is a good compromise between our work places?0 -
I think the problem is you are looking in areas that can command high rents because of their popularity. Anywhere near a tube tends to put prices up and you may have to have a rethink on area. How about Colliers Wood or Morden? Both on the northern line, but possible to change somewhere along the way for rail service (Balham perhaps?)The bigger the bargain, the better I feel.
I should mention that there's only one of me, don't confuse me with others of the same name.0 -
I heard that it is quite expensive in Balham. I could be wrong.
How are the house prices for rent in Mrden and Colliers Wood? How's the neighbourhood in general in those areas?0 -
I live in Tooting, just one stop from Colliers Wood. Until recently we were looking to buy in Colliers Wood because we liked the area but got priced out. Tooting is more expensive but here you'd get a one bed with garden (that's what we are paying for a large one bed) for your budget. In Colliers Wood your budget would go further. It's a quiet, safe area with a nice park. There are quite a lot of two bed flats in the area, some with gardens.
It has its own facilities and is close to the amenities of Wimbledon and Tooting and it has a huge Sainsburys and M&S. Some nice Lebanese cafes/restaurant. I'm guessing you work at St Thomas's. My husband works at there and uses the Northern Line and sometimes cycles on the new superhighway. Your wife could walk to Wimbledon - not far - and get the tube into Chelsea. There is also Thameslink too which is handy on the odd occasion there are problems with the Northern Line.0 -
I live very close to Wimbledon and Morden and they are nice areas, have you thought of Morden? It is on the Northern line and cheaper than Wimbledon. Ultimately with your plans of wanting a family etc, it sounds like a little compromise in the location might have to be made. Good luck I'm sure you'll be fine... and make sure you enjoy your holiday!0
