  • When I first started I only paid £73 per month - I was self employed and I couldn't guarentee any more - that wasn't a problem on the basis that I couldn't do it forever (47years to clear debts!).

Since yours is due to a reduced income I can't see a problem. All you can do is call them and discuss it.

    Hi

Thanks for taking the time to reply I'm self employed to, I'll give them a call tomorrow, I've had to reduce my deposit before and then at a later date I've been able to increase it, the joys of self employment.
  • Hi ! :T

I am a newbie! StepChange have just set up my DMP and first payment is coming out start of February (didn't realise it would be set up quick, was due to come out yesterday but phoned them to explain i don't have money for the payment so have moved it)

Wish I had done this sooner as I have had many many months getting rubbish sleep stressing over the debts and when i was going to manage to pay back!

This way, I will now be debt free within a year which is great news!!! so fab thing to start with in 2013 knowing im going to be debt free by start of 2014 at earliest!

    happy DMP'ing ! :D All the best for 2013 ! xx

  • Hi and Happy New Year.

Late last year I decided to get to grips with my accumulated debt which had been causing me a great deal of stress and anxiety for over a year These debts had accrued due to bad management on my part and a reduction in income as well as the usual expense of raising a family in the current climate.

Obviously my first port of call was this forum and from here I managed to glean enough information to take the first steps in resolving my debt issues. I was almost crying with relief after my first conversation with Payplan. It's not an easy process to go through and like many I'm sure, I experienced a whole range of emotions whilst getting things sorted.

Anyway, my first DMP payment to Payplan goes out on 16 January and I'm on the road to getting things under control at long last, this forum helped me take the first steps and gave me some confidence in the system!

I feel so much better overall having started getting a grip on these issues, and I would urge anyone reading this forum as I did to not be afraid and make a start.

    Thanks again!:j

Good evening and welcome to all our (reluctant) joiners in 2013 !.

You may not have realized it yet but you are now in full control of the situation by deciding to deal with you debts.

I wont lie to you and say the road ahead will be pain free, I know myself from my own experiences that it wont be, but by paying your debts off you are taking control of the situation and if your creditors arent happy well stuff them as you cant pay what you havent got !.

You will be deluged by phonecalls ( I was by HBOS) but you can write to them to tell them to communicate in writing only (search the stickies) and some may continue to charge interest EVEN if they agree the DMP (Thanks HBOS !).

You may feel that it will take forever to clear your debts ? - Thats what I thought when I made my first payment in Dec 2005, but now I have 5 more instalments to go and then I am debt free (These 6 payments are to clear the extra interest HBOS charged me , when they decided to unfreeze the interest before freezing it again).

(The other 2 CC`s (Cahoot & Capital One) froze it straight away.)

See my sig for details, but please dont be afraid to ask any questions (even the ones that you *may* think are stupid, because an intelligent person asks questions, its the stupid ones who dont ask because they dont want to appear stupid.

Welcome aboard and I hope, like me, you get DF in the end !
  • Happy new year all, hope everyone had a great Christmas too!

Just after some advice, I have searched the forum and I can't find the f+f thread.

We have been on a DMP since last year and mint defaulted us in June 2011. We have saved up enought money to pay off the balance, but I was thinking as they have already defaulted us would it be worth making a reduced f+f offer? Can they then change the default date to this year? And what percentage would be a good place to start?

    Many thanks in advance

  • Hi all

Just an update. I have just been told when I switched accounts a DD from my previous account did not register - My Mortgage. It will be paid this month but how anxious can it make you? HI and I will sort this months DMP payment as that was also not done correctly. No fault of ours apart from our debt, here's lloking to getting sorted eventually. I hope you all have a better start to getting debt free better than we have. x
    Will get there eventually.
  • So I thought I had cleared my debt to Wonga via my DMP - but today I signed up with Noddle and it's showing the debt as about £250 - BUT states that it is up to date despite not having received any payments from me since August.

I have not received any calls or letter from them.

Should I add the debt back onto my DMP to make sure it clears - or just wait and see what happens?

TBH they've had over 100% in interest back from me anyway - so I'm not inclined to give them more, esp if they seem happy to ignore it. I know this could bite me in the !!! later down the line - but I could always say it way an honest mistake and just add it back in then. :o

    Opinions?

    Hi

Slow down and take things one step at a time

What made you think you had cleared it?

When was your last statement from them?

What's your DMP providers take on it?

I leave NOTHING to chance and measure everything myself now. When I spend I or pay it is documented. Please dont rely on anyone else to do the accounting for you or it will come back and bite you or catch you out. If you aren't in control now please change this folks and write for statements so you can draw a line under the past and start again today.

    Hope that helps.
