The BBC learning zone has some good stuff about spreadsheets. It is aimed at GCSE level but is a good place to start.

ailz, I had a really choked up feeling when I read about your mum and dad, it's almost identical to my parents. They met as young teenagers and married at 17 and 20 when my dad was home on leave from the Royal Navy during the WWII. My dad died very suddenly when he was 55 and my mum felt her world had come to an end. Gradually she got some life back, the birth of my daughter, her first and only grandchild gave her something to care about again, but until the day she died, she never stopped missing him. I still can't listen to the words of Alone Again Naturally by Gilbert O'Sullivan (showing my age here!) without it making me think of my mum and dad and having a little cry :(

I love old churches too, maybe we are secretly related, and of course I am already HH's Twin Geek Sister, so with your love of spreadsheets, there could be a third secret triplet :D

    Take care

My mum has told me that she gave herself a good talking to last week to try and stop being so maudlin and feeling sorry for herself. I've told her she has every right to feel sorry for herself as it's only been 4 months. I think I've persuaded her to get a cat (she's terrified of the dark) as company and 'someone' to talk to - though she does talk to a picture of my dad.

Great one of triplets - wait 'til I tell my mum, she'll be surprised :rotfl:.

Sorry for your loss. A cat sounds like a perfect tonic and will bring much comfort at this sad time.

    Afternoon all,

Hope everyone is well. Quick update

CCCS have set up direct debit for 1st Nov, and I have moved almost all my other debits to the new account.

Am now in the process of papping myself about the fact that there seems to be a lot of creditors not reducing interest. If this is the case my payments will not even cover it, so debts will just keep going up.

I currently have £150 left for the month, not sure how I will be able to put petrol in for the last week (walking to work not an option), but hopefully November will be a bit easier. I have worked out we should have about £350 more than the current month.

    LBM 12.09.12 - £53K in debt.
    DFD - 11.07.2019 (OMG).
New DFD is 28.10.2018 due to paying the absolute maximum.

Thanks to everyone on the DMP forum, and to SC for helping me out of this huge hole.

    Hi all

Been catching up on the posts as I haven't been around for a few days.

Well things certainly are not going my way, I was made Redundant from my job so all the figures we gave CCCS are going to have to be changed but I am so glad we faced up to things prior to this as we are now more well equipped to deal with these dilemmas!

Well done to everyone who is beginning their debt free journey, we will be a great source of inspiration and support to one another, off to the job boards nows, something has got to start going my way soon!!

Hi G1W. As you are just starting out I would wait a bit to see what happens. A lot of my creditors laid the charges on thick in the first month of my DMP and it is not uncommon for your debt to go up in this period. After that initial month most of my creditors stopped interest. The only one who didn't was the Halifax. We are still paying charges on the bank account overdraft that was included in the DMP and one CC. The other Halifax CC only had a small amount owing and was passed over to a DCA. If interest is still being charged after your first month then you can write to your creditor. Plenty of sample letters on this thread and if that fails you can go to the Financial Ombudsman. Good luck, stick with it and I am sure things will settle down.

Hi SS. Sorry to hear about the job. I am going to be in the same situation myself next year when the funding for my job runs out. You are sounding pretty positive though, good luck with the job hunting.

Good progress then. The longer away your DFD is the more likely they are to reduce or freeze interest so I think overall you will be ok at least for a few years.

I think with more and more people coming on board with DMPs interest frozen forever will only apply to a few debtors. The point is you need money to live on first then pay your creditors second until the debt is repaid. So you should always be ok.

Roll on November for you. Make sure you get onto the OS board to look at household costs especially food and cleaning things, you can seriously shave your budget here so you have some extra elastic for the other parts of the budget,.

Well done SS. Sorry to hear about your redundancy. If there can be any cloud with a lining a) it's better to have ahppened at the start of the DMP b) there will be more chance of debt getting passed on and interest reduced.

Moan all you like, we are here if you need us. Good luck on the job hunt.
