  • Hi wannabefree sorry I don't know how to get ur post to quote.we are in a similar situation to yourselves. Just after Xmas my husband was made redundant basically his company closed one of the directors pulled his money out. The next week the remaining one reopened under a new name! Hence we lost 2 weeks holiday pay and his guaranteed overtime reduced to nil!
His work is gradually picking up so may be in a position to grab that extra 100 per week! Plus I've been on holiday from work but may be able to grab some extra shifts myself.
Iif we do get the extra I'm intending on building an emergency fund of 500. Then I will try and offer final payments to our smaller debts! Because we are just starting out I don't to be struggling paying 850 worth of debt per month like we have for the last 2 years! Id rather pay the 150 be in it for a bit longer and live! Hope that makes sense. X

That totally makes sense to me. We'd gone without things such as clothes/shoes for so long!! I cut all the boys hair myself but haven't been able to afford a haircut in over 12 months.

We have house repairs required and some bodywork repairs to the car too. Maybe that's what I should focus our extra money on first. Rebalancing our standard of living to where our clothes are hole free and the house not falling down around us!

  • Hi, thanks for the reply. No we'd still be below the contractual payments as the monthly figure for the catalogue is only £30.

Go for it I say :)

Good plan. I think DMPs work best if we see them more of a marathan than a sprint. You only get one life.

I was shocked to realised I'd paid off over 15k the other day. Started my DMP Aug 08, and due to finish May 16, with 24k left (though if I sell the flat, I hope to offer F&Fs to creditors and pay off early). Also note when I started I had a dfd of 2029!

Just wanted to say the same as Ellie, that there is light at the end of the (very) long tunnel.

    I think that's very sensible.

  • So, our old bank rang us yesterday, well rang me cos I was in.
The history is that the bank won;t agree to our DMP payments unless we close the OD account (fair enough) and we'd been told this via email from CCCS and would we write a letter please.
So, Mr BR duly writes a letter instructing them to close his account with immediate effect and we hand delivered it on Saturday. Yesterday the bank rang to say that the letter wasn't clear enough ans they needed to know exactly "which of Mr BR's accounts he wishes us to close". Well, he only has one...unless the loan and the mortgage count as accounts?
Anyway, to be on the safe side, he's rewritten the letter, specifying that he wants the current account closed. We figured that we can always write another letter later about the loan if needs be - after all we don;t want them being pests and closing the mortgage account because in the original rewrite he'd put 'any and all accounts' to be closed - we changed that to be on the safe side.

Well all has been very quiet on the DMP front until today but I've had all my catalogue statements (littlewoods, very, isme and kayandco) and no interest or late fees have been added, also had a huge envelope from them all accepting my DMP, so it's all good.
It's nearly the end of the month and the budget is doing ok as well.
Hope everyone is ok in DMP land.
