Hi Luis, I think everyone worries about this when embarking on a DMP because you do hear some horror stories. However I have to say I had very little hassle. It is important to talk to your creditors when they call, but all you have to do is stick to your guns, tell them you are on a DMP with CCCS, quote your number and refuse to pay anything extra as this is unfair to your other creditors. Once things are up and running everything will settle down. If you do get lots of hassle you can ask them to contact you by letter only.
Lots of good advice on here if you need help. Let us know how you get on.

Newbie to posting, but long time browser!
Just requested an application from CCCS for a DMP on debts of 31k. Feel relieved to have finally opened my eyes to the problem, but rather worried about what my creditors are going to do. Main creditors are TSB & Sainsburys. Has anybody had any dealings with either of these?

Hi Luis and welcome :hello:
This is cut and pasted from a previous post I made because I need to get ready for work but my best advice is:
"Please don't stress about it because all banks seem to treat all creditors in different ways. If you read these boards, you will see that Bank A treated me really badly and Bank B were super but the next poster had the exact opposite experience. I know it's difficult to do but you need to wait until they act and then take action.
It appears that most posters on a DMP can have some charges added at the start, though some people state that their DMP is accepted immediately and all interest is stopped. It just seems to be a lottery how an individual is treated."
Our personal experience has been that is got much easier after month 1 and there have been no more phone calls since then and the only letters we seem to get are normal statements and the obligatory late payment warnings. Supplying your CCCS reference number seemed to be enough to stop the calls and it all settled down quickly.
I hope this is enough to reassure you and your OH that you are taking the first steps to becoming debt free. Well done on that move :TLBM 10/1/12 ~ DFW Start 6/2/12: £82,344 ~ Now Zero:staradmin:starmod::staradmin Debt free 17th April 2015 :staradmin:starmod::staradmin

We're in the same boat Luis. I think you have to ask what other option do you have? As far as I can see CCCS are quite respected by many creditors and good at what they do. If you get any nasty letters just write back and them them to deal with CCCS. And don't open the door to any baliffs. You just have to bite the bullet and keep your fingers crossed. If you do have any problems (and not many people do - there's a lot of us in debt in the current financial situation) just post on here - there are lots of very helpful people who have been there and can help you. Good luck.0

What's the likelihood of bailiffs coming when on a DMP? I assume this is rare? xxxLife is too short not to love what you do.0

Luis, I am in the same boat as you. I only realised how far in trouble I was on Tuesday and I've made the first steps to entering into a DMP with the second stage with Payplan happening today.
I have spent the last few days feeling very guilty and worried about how my creditors are going to react but there is a lot of good advice on here to keep you going and it can get you prepared for all eventualities.
Personally I am just going to assume that there will be some initial teething problems before everything levels out and there's nothing I can do about it. Then, if it all goes plain sailing it's an extra bonus on top of sorting things out.0 -
I don't think they can seize your goods once you are on the DMP. It just depends if there are any missed payments or arrears. As long as you pay council tax, rent, mortgage, utilities and you keep up to date with creditor payments you should be ok. I've been searching the internet to find a definative answer because I have young children and don't want baliffs calling but it doesn't seem black and white.0

Morning to the newbees
Baliffs can only come for council tax, mortgage or if you ignore CCJ conditions. You are doing the responsible thing on DMP. Priority outgoings are paid first like mortgage and council tax so thats not going to happen. You could still get a CCJ when on DMP but very unlikely. If you do get a CCJ usually interest is stopped. This will then be considered priority debt by DMP provider like CCCS.
So unless you go on a bender you are absolutely going to be ok
Dont forget debt collector are not balliffs and have no rights at all to call at your home. Please consider sending record delivered letters to your crediters saying communications in writting only.
Welcome to the rest of your lives

Whilst we are talking about CCJ's, do defaults eventually lead to CCJ's?
I managed to get on Noddle this morning and I have got 2 defaulted acounts totally £178, both of which have defaulted this year.0 -

Defaults are good as as soon as you get them on that particular account the 6 years starts ticking away. Very few cases get to CCJ. Just make sure you keep in touch ie paying amount via the DMP. In the very unlikely event it goes to CCJ the judge needs to see you are being responsible. If you read the thousands of dmp posts as I have for the last few years you will see struggle to find CCJs.
Hope that helps
