Yep, exactly that. We had to go in an ask for 19 of them! We didn't use our local PO as we live in a really small place and thought it might be too embarrassing.
The PO will ask if you want them to make them out, we just did our own - this is simply putting the creditor name on the front, to make sure no-one else can cash them. I don't remember if there are the option of uncrossed and crossed anymore, but if there is, you want them crossed, again this means they can only be cashed by the named person/organisation.
Oh yeah, they also charge you for the privilege of using postal orders!

Just seen that on the post office website! 50p for a £1 postal order! crazy prices!
So I shall take a trip down there then and see what I can get! Thanks for your help!
Does anyone have a quick link to a template of what to write to them saying you're going on a DMP?
Cheers!

Hi
Hopefullu i have put this in the right place?
I need a bit of advice please- yesterday after a talk with my hubby I realised how bad his debts were- not that he done this without my knowledge- so were both to bame- but all debt is in his name so my questions might sound really selfish.
I hope someone can help
1) when he completed his debt remedy which led to an outcome of DMP- he but the total amount of our mortgage and council tax down- should this be half as i am jointly liable? leaving a bigger amount to go to his creditors?
2) will him having a DMP effect me?
3) were currently mortaged and fully up to date- will our mortgage broker need to be told about his DMP? Just im thinking for when our fixed rate comes to an end
4) on his debt rememby he never mentioned my salary as this isnt a joint DMP? is this correct? I have my own affordable debts i pay which is a family loan for our wedding.
Im sorry for all the questions but I cant get him to speak to anyone and im at my wits end.
Thanks in advance

Hey rd
Here's the letter I've sent to all mine yesterday. Feel free to pick out the bits that are relevant to you. It's based on the CCCS template that I received, but I've bulked it out a bit more as I want to try and avoid other pitfalls that usually happen at the beginning, like the timing difference with their due dates and CCCS payment date, and the 'only contact in writing' bit.
Hope this helps.Account/Agreement No: XXXXXXXXX
Account Holder: XXXX XXXXXXX
Dear Sir/Madam
I am currently experiencing financial difficulties and have received advice from Consumer Credit Counselling Service (CCCS) to help solve my debt problem. They have recommended that my partner and myself enter into a Debt Management Plan (DMP) with them, and we have now sent them our agreement together with full details of all creditors, debts owed and our monthly household income and expenditure.
I find myself unable to meet the minimum payments on my account with you this month, and so have enclosed a cheque for £1, which is all I can afford whilst I arrange to get my finances in order. I hope you will see that this shows a willingness to continue to pay something to my debt with you and work towards clearing this through the CCCS DMP.
I would ask that you please consider reducing or stopping interest or any other charges on my account to help me during my financial difficulties and to avoid increasing my debts any further.
All correspondence and contact in relation to my account should now be made with CCCS direct and they will be in touch with you shortly to confirm their details and the start date of the DMP. Our DMP reference number is XXXXXXX and you should quote this on all correspondence with them. If you do need to contact me in relation to my account at any time, I request that, in accordance with OFT guidance, you respect my request that all communication is made ONLY in writing.
I note that the due date for payments to my account is currently around the XXth of each month. Since CCCS send all payments out around 25th of each month, I would be grateful if you could move my current ‘due date’ to 25th or later in the month to avoid timing differences with CCCS which might result in unnecessary late payment charges, further compounding my debt problems.
I thank you in anticipation of your assistance and co-operation whilst I am going through this difficult time, and assure you that I am doing everything I can to resolve my current financial situation in a responsible and sustainable manner.0 -
Thank you Grand! That is perfect!! xxxLife is too short not to love what you do.0

Hey Mrs G
Can't help with your questions but just want to say it's good that you're talking about it, even if you can't get him to talk to anyone else. If he's done the debt remedy thing, it's worth just giving CCCS a ring and asking them to clarify your queries, as they'll know what's best, they're really helpful and sympathetic and easy to talk to, and I'm sure they'll see this thing every day when it's not a joint DMP.
Welcome to the board. It's one of the best resources I've come across for information and amazing support from people who've 'been there, done that'.
Hope you get your answers.

So - we are off.... All our letters have been sent out and the DMP is officially up and running. The CCCS is sending out their offers tomorrow. The only CC we can'r do anything about yet is the old Egg card which nobody claims to own (?) Egg say they don't have us on record and Barclaycard say its also not theirs. So I guess something will turn up in the post.
The only creditor who has been in contact is Santander who were very understanding and are going to speak to the CCCS.
So far so good, hope it is all as smooth as this... :-)
Just seen a message from somebody on here about mortgages, as far as I know they don't need to know you are on a DMP and you should be able to take up any offers that your current lender has as long as you are up to date with payments, I don't think you will get anywhere with any other lenders though.Debts as of June 2012 - £68,986.35Now £27,470.20 :T57% of debts cleared:beer:0 -

Hiya,
Mr BlushingRose and I are on a DMP but, like you, all 'our' debts are in his name so 'technically' it's his DMP but we're both living it.
Our DMP is with the CCCS and they know I exist but as I'm not working, the income is just for the one person, all all amount are true and not halved in any way.
The forms sent out to creditors does say that 'other members of the household may contribute to household bills'.
Also, our mortgage company hasn't been told that we're on a DMP as it's one of the 'bills' that's unaffected so there's been no need to tell them.
Your husband being on a DMP will affect you, if only because the money you have to live on may well change.
Also, if you have any joint bills, loans, accounts then you might well be effected as well by those. Our LBM: Dec 2011. DMP started: Jan 2012. Debt at LBM: £41,568
Oct 2012 = Current debt: £40,548.93
Oct 2013 = Current debt: £39.054.70
DMP Support number 424 - Long haul number 3080 -
Well I had my LBM last week and applied to CCCS for my DMP but I still have to write my letters. Not sure what to put, feel as though I should explain how we got in this mess before asking for interest freeze and reduced payments. However, most standard letters don't allow for this. Tried to open new acccount. Got accepted then the banks system crashed and said 'try again later'. I thought doing this would make me feel positive but I have to say I'm really struggling. I feel weepy all the time (weather isn't helping, raining and dull every day) and every time I check the current bank account it just makes me feel worse. I can see my OH sinking too and he relies on me to prop him up. Everyone says it's going to get better I just can't seem to stop feeling sorry for myself and feeling overwhelmed by everything at the moment. Just don't have the energy to kick myself up the bum. Is this normal for people after their LBM?0
