I have my DMP with CCCS and have found them to be very helpful. Don't forget don't bank with any of your creditors. If your account is with a creditor that you are including in your DMP then you will need to open a new account with someone you have no debts with. Plus don't forget to add a few little extras into your expenditure to make things a little easier. Don't have lunches at work, well you do now. You don't smoke, well you do now. That little bit of extra money each month really makes a difference and you can put it away for a rainy day fund. Yes it may mean that you take longer to pay back the debt but it really makes life on a DMP much more bearable and gives you a little wriggle room for those unexpected costs.
Good luck, let us know how it goes:)
Thanks for the support:)
Called the 'fee charging' company today and surprisingly they didn't tried to keep me on the books and accepted I was exercising my right to cancel. Cancellation of service letter coming out tonight and any pending payments stopped by them (and me at the bank).:D
Application pack from CCCS came today so I've spent this evening putting all the paperwork together ready for posting first thing tomorrow.:)
I have definitely left a little something in the pot and, as you say, it may take a bit longer but the family accounts are much nicer to look at now!:D
You guys really made a difference so thanks for making me think twice and put the extra work in. :T:T0 -
Waiting for an update on this .... ooo its exciting stuff.
We havnt pitched in as youve been given some excellent advice there. Just remember ... it will be rough for a few weeks, but there is a light and its debt freedom (not a train). These days, as ide from the odd statement or settlement letter, we never hear from our creditors.
If the DMP takes 6 years ... its done and paid in full.
Welcome to the Board ...
He he, exciting eh?!
All done now and just in time to escape the claws of the blood suckers!:o
I'm making some token payments at the moment and I'm more than prepared to brazen it out until the dust settles.;)0 -

Have today received 3 letters advising of £30 charge on each for cancelling direct debit... now 2 loan payments are not yet due until end of this month so are fully up to date... so this £30 charge is for cancelling DD alone!! they have also stated on each letter that a provision of lending was that payment was made only by Direct Debit and should this not be reinstated by the next due date payment will be due in full :eek: is this standard or should I be hugely worried ( as i am!!!)
Looks like standard scare tactics to me:mad:. There certainly are companies that make DD payment part of their terms and conditions. I think this is just your particular 'rough patch' before Payplan get to grips with it all for you.:D
If it were me, I'd just consider that whatever may build up in the short term will just be spread over a long time to come.
I find putting my hands over my ears and singing loudly helps me to cope with it all!:rotfl:
Good luck:)0 -
I've just received a 'final demand' letter from M &S cc. It says I have 48hours to respond and then they mention court, debt collectors and so on. Are these standard scare tactics bearing in mind I've been on DMP for 14months or should I be worried? They've also just issued me with a default. Thanks for your help.0

Sounds like they're just taking a chance on scaring you enough to get a larger monthly payment. What do your DMP providers have to say about it?0 -

Hope you dont mind me joining your thread.
Well have taken the plunge and and 1st payment goes to CCCS on 10th.
Have already had 3 creditors accept plan, but one today is threatening court action, so this has worried me a bit.
Hopefully its just the standard scary letter you hear about on here all the time.
I dont care what they do to me, but as anyone who has read my previous thread, I just dont want my Husband to have to much hassle.
He has been great about it all and is totally on board.
I would also like to thank you all for giving me the courage to finally do something about the debt, and to those who sent me pm's.
Will let you know how Im getting on.
Thanks again
Welcome!
The first three months may be rocky but life does get better. Very few cases get to court as it costs them and they will look silly as you are going through a recognised DMP charity.

Hi all,
I haven't posted on here in a while but just had skim and wanted to let everyone know who is about to start a DMP that it is actually the best way to tackle your debt and things get so much easier. You realise that you are actually in control of finances and can actually sleep better as well as notice some savings on the side building up!
My update:
I started a DMP in Jan with CCCS. All creditors accepted except NatWest, they kept rejecting payments from CCCS stating my details were not recognised. They continued to pile on interest.
I have been writing to NatWest since Jan to sort out the issues and for them to accept a payment plan which is logical and affordable. They have been utterly useless and completely unhelpful. I complained to them in February, they sent a letter to me saying they were investigating my complaint and will send a full detailed response by 30 March. 30 March came and they sent a letter saying 30 April. 30 April came and they sent a letter saying 30 May. 30 May came.... you guessed it.... they sent a letter saying they are still investigating and will send a letter by 30 June!!!
I have just sent a complaint to the Financial Ombudsmen with a copy of their letters and my letters. NatWest have been a total joke in this process, not accepting my payments even though all details are correct, continuing to charge interest and charges even though I have written numerous times saying my debt is only going higher and it is against the lending code etc.
Does anyone have any experience with the FO or know what may happen next?
Cheers and have a good day all!
Well done on reporting them. From memory I think they get 12 weeks to resolve it, if not to your satisfaction then you go back to FOS.
Good luck

Hi
They are being silly devils aren't they.
People often don't acknowledge the DMPs. Write to them recorded delivery. Quote date you advised them on DMP, ask for refund of the charges to the account and ask them to stop interest. It may work. People often find their debt goes up at first. My first month went up 2.5%! Two years on I have paid almost half of it off.
Good luck

Is the debt still with your original lender or moved to a DCA? Are they offering you a F&F settlement? Whatever they are offering get it in writing. A decent F&F should be between 10-15% of original debt.
Remember, get whatever offer it is in writing!
Hi
Have you got any evidence of 10-15%? I have only ever known it this low when it has gone through multiple DCAs and they have been chasing non payment for years.
