Have you cancelled in writing yet email and registered post and your bank to cancel their direct debit?
HHx
Hi HH,
I'm feeling empowered already to be honest!
The first 2 payments will be from my debit card and standing order after that. They're assuming my first payment will be around the 15th of this month (which they expect me to make over the phone).
I've tried calling them today but the 'advisers' are all busy so I'm putting the letter together tonight to be sent registered first thing tomorrow. Regardless, I'll be calling them to verbally cancel tomorrow also. The only worrying thing in the agreement is that the cooling off period apparently starts from when you verbally agree to go with them._pale_
Unless they have a recording of this (I'm sure they have), is a verbal agreement enforceable?
Now I'm racking my brain to work out when they could've assumed verbal agreeement:(.
Either way, I'll confirm cancellation verbally and by letter and see what happens.:eek:0 -
Thanks TTFTM, I really appreciate the time you've taken today on this.
Ding ding...Round 1!
I'll definitely need to be back here as soon as I'm up and running.
Thanks again.

Be calm. There are lots of things you can do about this.
Call and write to your bank saying you do not authorise any payments to them.
Regardless of the phone call with them tomorrow make sure a letter is in the post, registered. Email too then you will also have that as proof.
When did you sign up? When did you verbally agree?
Any hassle report them to OFT and FOS

Thanks again HH,:T
I signed on the 26th but I'm not entirely sure when they would assume I verbally agreed to anything (I'm thinking around the 23rd). Letter being done as we speak and I'll be composing the email later tonight.
Any hassles and I'll request copies of the telephone conversations from them in the first instance. I'm simply going to tell them I don't need their services as I have found another option to a DMP. Hopefully they'll assume my circumstances have changed so I don't have a need for a DMP anymore;).
I'm hoping they'll back off if they don't smell blood in the water!
I'll post the results of my conversation with them tomorrow if I get chance.:)0 -

Well you should be ok on both counts and if you deal with the bank too you are doubly safe.
Just keep it short and simple but please do it asap before it falls of the radar.
You don't owe them any explanation other that you don't want to proceed.

Thanks HH,
Email sent, letter ready for posting and sorting bank tonight.
I kept it simple and to the point too (very odd for me!;)).
I did tell them my circumstances have changed enough to render a DMP irrelevant (without going into any particular detail though).
Fingers crossed!:D0 -
So much for keeping it simple!!! Still, at least it is done. Well done! Actually I think it is TTFTM that needs to take the main credit for finding out those posts.
Hope you will sleep easier

That is simple for me!!:rotfl:
TTFTM absolutely:T.
As for sleep... let's wait until after I've confronted them on the phone tomorrow I think;).
Thank you and TTFTM for your valuable time today and all the advice.:T:T:T0 -
Well, I've taken the initial plunge with CCCS and/or Payplan so I'll wait to receive the packs and decide who I'm going with (probably CCCS).:)
Should I be putting letters together informing my creditors of my current situation or is it better for CCCS/Payplan to do this for me?:undecided
I guess I should be making some minimal payments to them also?
I have my DMP with CCCS and have found them to be very helpful. Don't forget don't bank with any of your creditors. If your account is with a creditor that you are including in your DMP then you will need to open a new account with someone you have no debts with. Plus don't forget to add a few little extras into your expenditure to make things a little easier. Don't have lunches at work, well you do now. You don't smoke, well you do now. That little bit of extra money each month really makes a difference and you can put it away for a rainy day fund. Yes it may mean that you take longer to pay back the debt but it really makes life on a DMP much more bearable and gives you a little wriggle room for those unexpected costs.
Good luck, let us know how it goes:)DMP Mutual Support Thread No. 421
