  • where do you find the digital river download links? I'm looking (halfheartedly) for 7 x64 pro upg, but knowing where the links are found would be more useful.

Do you need the Upgrade disc?? Do you have an Upgrade product Key?

Not sure quite what you mean, but both santer and takethis have given links whch if you click on them will take you to the relevant sites. These are full downloads rather than just upgrade versions. A clean install rather than an upgrade is always preferable, however you will need to buy a license to activate these installs (if you don't already have one).
  • thanks, I appreciate a clean install is always the way to go, I do have an upgrade key (and a number of valid products to upgrade from! Pretty sure my key isn't valid for any other version), but clean installed anyway (double installed). Just figured I may as well grab an ISO ready for when I clean off my SSD. Pretty sure their links are to specific downloads, none the x64 pro upgrade with sp1.
Might just grab a copy from a torrent site if I can find a clean one (I don't want/need activation hacks included)

Yesterday I downloaded the latest version, as recommended by TakeThis, as although I've made a couple of copies of the Windows 7 recovery discs that the laptop (mine's an Acer 5741-A) nags/prompted me to do when I bought it, I thought it would still be a good idea to have another extra copy ( minus the carpware that it came with!), from elsewhere....just in case the ones I've made fail, and I need to reinstall Windows. It downloaded OK, and then I burned it using ImgBurn, but during verification, I received an error message that the file was corrupt (sorry can't remember exactly what the error message said) and couldn't be fixed. Is this just me, or is it the file itself, 'cos I don't want to waste any more DVDs if it's the file itself? Or, am I doing something wrong? I'd appreciate any help/advice. TIA.

Going to send these links via PM from now on, as I can imagine this thread could grow and grow and maybe some people won't be happy.

These are not upgrade discs, so you'll need to use your old upgrade disc and key.
I've sent you the image link anyway.

Check the hash of your download: SHA1: 6071B4553FCF0EA53D589A846B5AE76743DD68FC

You can use HashTab or similar.

Thanks for the "HashTab " program, TakeThis. I have winMd5Sum, but as I didn't know what the hash for this file was, I couldn't check it!

Both the SHA1 and the Md5 hashes check out, so I'm nowhere nearer solving this. Could something have happened to the file when I downloaded it, or did I use the wrong type of blank DVD... I used a Verbatim DVD-R? I haven't had any problem with these blank DVDs before, and don't want to use up all my DVDs to just get the same result.

Do you think downloading it again might resolve the issue? Or, might burning it with another program do the trick?

    TIA

If your hashes check out then the ISO file must be okay and your problem must lay elsewhere. You need to burn the ISO and not burn the ISO file itself to the DVD. To do that you will need to open the ISO file with a DVD writing application such as Nero or a freeware alternative.

MSDN Windows 7 download page with file hashes. You won't be able to download these unless you are a MSDN subscriber but the hashes can be checked if you have the same version.
