If you were my employer, would you see this as taking the !!!!?

I love my employment and my manager and would not like to seem that I am taking the !!!!. But there are 3 dates I need holidays for

March - holiday

July - GCSE sittings.

May - family holiday.

Will the face all the holidays are within a month of each other look as though I am taking the !!!!.

    No a sensible employer would likely see atleast the July holiday as a necessity & many would see the March one as being the same, so long as you have the entitlement then i doubt any questions would be raised.

    As said above, if you have the holiday entitlement then just request the days off. You shouldn't even have to explain why, however if they ask or you want to volunteer then by all means tell them.

    You have a statutory right to certain things such as holidays as an employee don't be afraid to exercise those rights.

    I am 23 now but when I was younger I used to be afraid to ask for holidays and time off as I thought it made me look lazy, but one thing I have learned is that you can still go "over and above" and impress management, without being walked all over. Because most larger employers WILL walk all over you if you let them.

    I used to work for Woolworths when I was in 17 and still in school and offered to do the 6am delivery one morning before school because someone had a bereavement. They then started asking me to do it every 2 weeks and in the end my parents had to get involved because they were taking the !!!!.
  • No, it won't look like that; it looks like you're organised and planning ahead and just need to book your dates with your employer. Put the requests in and don't feel guilty about it. The sooner you do it, the more chance you have of getting the dates you want.

    BTW - are you sure about your GCSE exam dates? They're not usually in July.

    They would probably prefer you to take as many as you can now rather than have 4 weeks left at the start of March 2013.
  • I'd check your GCSE dates - very few exams are in July - most sit May-June!

  • As long as the combined days you wish to take off doesn't exceed your entitlement I can't see why they would have any problem with it, unless you've only just started work and your contract says you can't take leave in the first 3 months, although you could still try and get unpaid leave, or if you're in a role where you can't be off at the same time as another specific person and they've already booked some of your dates.

    Will these periods of time off use up all your entitlement? If so it'll be a long second half on 2012 with no leave :)

    TBH I would have thought your manager would be pleased that you are not wanting to take time off in the peak end of July-August period. Provided you have the entitlement and it is not more than a couple of weeks in a row, and you can catch up with work in between, I'm sure they won't even say anything.
