Cheapest jabs / malaria tablets?

Options
I'm climbing Kilimanjaro at the end of Feb and need to get a yellow fever jab and malaria tablets.

My GP has quote £55 for the jab!

And I have no idea yet about malaria tablets yet but am under the impression they're generally quite expensive.

Can anyone advise a clinic that might be cheaper in London?

Thanks in advance!

Have a search on here for "malaria" as this question comes up often. I have answered in the past, but can't remember the answer at the moment apart from Superdrug being on of the cheapest places for malaria tablets as well as an online pharmacy at around £2.17-2.25 per tablet.

I paid £47 for the yellow fever jab last year and I think that is roughly the price so I doubt you get anything cheaper. That was from teh travel heath clinic in Nottm but I think they have these clinic most cities. With regards to maleria I got malerone from local pharmacy and I thinkit was a about £2.30 per tablet. But IMO you can't put a price on you health and planning for an enjoyable untroubled holiday.

The yellow fever jab is quite expensive, that's just the way it is.

There are several types of malaria tablets; Malarone is arguably the best but is the most expensive. But they can all affect people in different ways, so you should be advised by your GP/practice nurse.
  • There is a post on eBay for malerone - one months' supply for $25.
    Hope this helps everyone out!

you can get malaria tablets in boots for £12 a pack, however you take them 4 weeks after your visit.
I got my malaria tablets from the doctors for £70.
  • There are different types of malaria tablets, 3 which require a prescription and others which can be bought over the counter - it all depends where you are travelling which ones you should be taking.
We always get our Malarne from Travelpharm and there is lots of info on their site about the different types.

I am really surprised no one has said this yet but you don't necessarily NEED a YF jab. A certificate of immunisation is only required if you are travelling to Kenya from an endemic country - of which the UK is not.

We are going to Kenya next month and I won't be having it for a number of reasons.

We will probably be using an online pharmacy called Dr Fox, they have a price comparison table on their website which may help you decide who to use.

Who but a total imbecile would risk buying anti-malaria tablets from a seller who couldn't even get the spelling of the drug right?
    It should be Malarone.

PLEASE ORDER AT LEAST 2 MONTHS IN ADVANCE FOR YOUR TRIP as I am shipping from Africa

Would that be the same "Africa" where an estimated 30% of branded medicines are counterfeit?

One thing to bear in mind is that the part of Africa in which yellow fever is present is very close to Kenya, and it only takes a technical problem with an aircraft or a change of routing due to weather and you may find yourself in a yellow fever endemic area.
If this was to happen on your journey in, you may well find that you get refused entry into kenya.
