<snip> I find most come back down again after a while, so that they can say they're price reductions.

For example, <snip> Sunflower Light spread is currently up from £1.00 to £1.26 again. I keep a couple of tubs in the fridge (and you can freeze it, too) so I can "tough it out" until it comes back down again.

For the record, it came back down to £1.00 yesterday.

I've only just started on my last tub, and my stock is now replenished. I love it when a plan comes together. :)

  • I honestly can't remember the last time we shopped at Asda as we found their quality of meat and poultry terrible the last few times we've shopped there.

I'm seriously thinking of boycotting Asda altogether after many years of loyal custom, simply because I never know how much any one item will cost from one week to the next.

For example, their own brand instant coffee has gone up 3 times in the past 9-12 months, and the last price hike was over 20%. It has never been on offer (as far as I know), so the price changes don't make much sense.

Asda appear to spend too much resource on promoting 'bargains' in an attempt to beat their competitors prices, and so they need to claim back profit on other items. I suspect the coffee I buy has lost out because it is 'own brand', and so cannot be compared externally.

Inflation is always a factor, but Asda change their prices so often on all their products, it's a complete guess what a weekly shop will now cost compared to the previous week. It could go up... it could go down. It all depends on what Asda are trying to flog cheaper than their rivals that week.

So what's my alternative? Well, it's my local Lidl. I'm not big on brands so long as the product is of decent quality. Much of their fresh produce is better (and cheaper) than Asda. Best of all, you can shop there week after week for the same items, and you can easily track any price changes. It's a much simpler way of grocery shopping, and there are never any nasty surprises.

Asda take note! Some of us are getting pretty sick with your yo-yo pricing structure. Stop moving the goalposts, and go back to the old & trustworthy way of retailing.

I agree. Making me most fed up of Asda at the moment is not knowing the offer period. If I see something at a good price it can be finished the next day without knowing before I've even had chance to borrow the car . At least with tesco & sains I know the dates. I now go to Lidl & Aldi for my meat & shop around for any store cupboard items. I rarely go to Asda now.

One more item has been transferred from my ASDA shopping list to my Tesco shopping list. 500g tubs of sunflower spread. ASDA put it back up from £1.00 to £1.26 for too long, and I discovered Tesco's Everyday Value version is 75p and tastes the same.

  • This week I've noticed SP mozzarella up from .44 to .60
15 FR eggs up from 2.50 to 3.09. I know that doesn't seem like much, but week to week these things seem to be adding up. My £50 pw budget just doesn't stretch as far as it used to. :(

SP eggs are back up from 15 for £1.25 to £1.56 (10.4p each). However, Tesco EV eggs are 10 for £1.19 (11.9p each).

ASDA did a neat trick with their 400g English Cheddar last week, It's usually £2.48, or 2 for £4.00. Last week it was simply £2.00, presumably to "reset" the special offer. It's back to £2.48, or 2 for £4.00.
