Parking Enforcement Notice

Hi,
I wonder if you could give me some advice. I received a Parking Enforcement Notice from APCOA in October for dropping a friend off at Luton Airport in an area where I should'nt have. The notice was dated late Novemebr and gave me 14 days to halve the initial £80 fine to £40. I did this but last week received a letter from Roxburghe Debt Collectors asking for £122 as APCOA say they did not receive my £40 cheque. I contacted APCOA who said it was now out of their hands and to contact Roxburghe. I did this and explained that as I had sent the cheque I was not prepared to pay more than the £40 initial fine. Roxburghe said they would convey this message to APCOA. I am now concerned that the next letter I receive will ask for even more money even though I have acknowledged the letters I have received.
I am tempted to pay the £122 to finish this episode. Any information and advice would be greatly appreciated.
Thank you

DON'T send them anymore money! I believe that there was no need to pay the original £40, because they can't legally force you to, but someone who knows more about that will be along shortly.
First question - have you checked whether the cheque has been cashed? If not, put a stop on it NOW!You had me at your proper use of "you're".0 -
Do not pay them a penny. In fact, the first thing to do is to contact your bank and cancel the original cheque if has not yet been paid.
Once you've done that, you need to learn that this is all a scam to relieve you of your money, and that all the threats from APCOA and Roxburghe (and Graham White, who are the same as Roxburghe, and from whom you are likely to be hearing soon) are meaningless rubbish. Please look at the stkicy threads on this forum (click on the Parking Tickets, Fines & Parking breadcrumb link at the top of the page to find them), and then you'll realise what a con this is, and that these companies cannot fine you or enforce any kind of payment from you. Don't worry about the increasingly hysterical threats you get, and the amount of red ink. Do not be taken in by (hollow) threats of court, CCJs or bailiffs - it's all part of their tactic of intimidation.
Finally, thank your lucky stars that the cheque was never paid, and you're not £40 lighter.0 -

Send me £50 and tell them I was driving!:D0 -
You've been scammed with a fake PCN for £40 and you want to send them more?? :rotfl:
Please don't send them any more money, I am only laughing at the idea in preference to screaming in shock that you actually paid a private parking company (PPC) £40, thought it was a real fine and are still tempted to throw more money at this well-known con! Do hope you can stop the cheque, some banks will do that for free if lost in the post.
A Google of 'private parking ticket' or 'APCOA PCN' or 'PCN Luton Airport' would have told you that it's a con like all PPC fake tickets. Anyway, wait for this to load and read as many threads and links given, Watchdog video etc on the results, as it takes for you to understand why we are so shocked that you were taken in by this scam:

Read the sticky threads at the top of this forum as well if letters scare you. A preview of what to ignore would help you I suspect.PRIVATE 'PCN'? DON'T PAY BUT DON'T IGNORE IT (except N.Ireland).

Go ahead then, pay them if it makes you feel better.Hi, we’ve had to remove your signature. If you’re not sure why then you're as thick and stupid as the moderators on here - MSE ForumTeam0 -
Pay them the £122, you will only get a letter saying that it was late0

The above 2 posters are being sarcastic! Read the stickies and wise up about this scam.
Stop that cheque and keep your money in your Bank Account. Please don't let Steve Dargonne at Roxburghe have any of your hard-earned cash! All you have to do is ignore some letters, it's easy - just like deleting phishing emails or putting the phone down on an unsolicited call.
Most regulars here have ignored bogus PCNs so we speak from personal experience and knowledge. I have ignored a fake PCN 3 years ago, nothing happened except the predicted letters, just play snap with them all against the pictures we have at the top of this forum board. Roxburghe and their alter-ego Graham White (pseudo-solicitors) are shown all over the internet to be toothless pen-pushers, nothing else happens. If you believe their letters and pay anything then you'd be a complete mug, frankly. Please don't be a victim now you have found this forum full of info about this scam you are in the middle of!PRIVATE 'PCN'? DON'T PAY BUT DON'T IGNORE IT (except N.Ireland).

They probably did receive the cheque you sent, but thought okey dokey we have a payer, don't cash the cheque and send a letter saying they now owe the increased amount!
Don't play their silly game and just ignore them.0 -

I was, as if you pay the £122, you will get a letter saying "sorry the payment arrived too late to quality for that payment level, the fee has increased by another £30/£50, so please pay the outstanding balance.
Once PPCs get their teeth into a payer, they will nearly always try and get some more money out of them0
