Hi..hope you can help me. My son wants to have broadband installed but without a landline, we/he have been looking at the Virgin Media 2 for £30 bundle, broadband and tv, when he enters his postcode it says he is in a cable area, does this mean he can have broadband and tv without the landline, thanks in advance oh and why am I sorting this out for a 25 year old man??????

I'd check with his neighbours to see if they get cable. On our estate Diamond/NTL/Virgin only got as far as installing the street furniture as the money ran out before they got round to putting the cable in.
Cable would supply all the services, he would not need a BT landline.
.... Because as parents thats what we do!That gum you like is coming back in style.0 -

Have NTL run out of money for improvements/installations ??
I am having big speed problems with my NTL Broadband in evenings.
NTL keep saying they are going to upgrade box/servers, serving my area, but they have been saying that for a long time !!

Hi,
Yes you can have cable without a landline. I have just cable broadband @ £17.99 /month. No phone line fitted in the house.
However I too am experiencing speed problems during the evenings. I am currently in contact with their tech support but they have said there is no fault.0 -

I had 4 engineer appointments all saying different things & numerous phone calls.
Try to check speed at different times of day.
Do a few times & keep a log so you get an idea of what is going on.

Thanks peter999,
The problem only occurs at 'peak times'. I don't think it is a fault as such, just simply that there are too many people trying to use the bandwidth in the area during this period. At other times the speed is as expected. They should be able to see this quite clearly with their stats.
I will continue to shout.. sorry, talk to them to try and resolve the issue!0
