1 mile an hour over speed limit

Hi, I have been flashed by one of those cameras fitted to the top of a traffic light on a crossing on my way home tonight.
I am 100% certain that I was doing 310/31 miles per hour.

I am totally gutted.

My Husband thinks I may "get away with this" but speeding is speeding isnt it?

What do you all think?
Anyone been in this situation?

I will be demented waiting 14 days for a letter to appear, so is there any way to find out if I will be fined?
Skint!! But hey, L:heartpulsves FREE!!

A camera is very unlikely to flash at 1mph over the limit, and even then if you were showing 31mph indicated in a 30 limit then you will have been going slower than 30mph.

Are you sure it's not a Red light camera?

  • Its was on the top of a pelican crossing, it was 9pm and not a sole around so it wasnt going to change to red?

I am certain of my speed, unless my speedo is faulty?
Is there any way a mechanic could check it?

Speedos are set to read over. Mine for example reads at 7mph more than the actual speed of the car. My OH's reads at 5mph over.

Are you sure you were in a 30 mph zone? Its the only other thing I can think of to explain it going off unless you are in a zero tolerance area where, as you say, speeding is speeding.

i had read a little while a go, that all speedos are only accurate to within 5mph , therefore speed cameras only flash when the estimated speed is 5 mph above the limit.
smile --- it makes people wonder what you are up to.... ;)

if it makes you feel any better i was once flashed by a camera when i was doing 25 in a 30 zone. it was very upsetting but i figure they now had a picture of me doing an acceptable speed.

one mile over doesn't sound serious.

is it still true that not all cameras actually have film in them anyway? (or is that a myth?)

This is possibly a traffic signal camera, you tripped the camera by going through the red light.

If this is not the case, appeal. Otherwise it's 3 points, £60 and a TS10 on your licence.

Are you even sure it was a camera, those little things on top of pelican crossings that look like little CCTV cameras are actually movement sensors. Are you sure it wasn't just the light reflecting off the lens and made it look like a flash. Speed cameras are huge and usually yellow.
