If you do get one, check over it Very Carefully, nothing better than sitting in a control room, looking up at the Tracking map and suddenly having an extra unit on shift(Tracker not removed prior to Auction).

:rotfl: Brilliant. I've also heard of ex police cars still having the button to make the headlights flash lol.

You also quoted me in relation to the maintenance issue and then tried to claim that the quote you used was in relation to how police vehicles are driven. A bit disingenuous don't you think?

You just like to argue. I covered both points.

Personally I would rather take most of my advice from the guys who work on the cars than those who drive them.

I wouldn't ask a sales rep about the service of his car as he is only the driver who usually has no involvement in the servicing other than being told by the lease company when and where to take it, what they actually do after that is their decision. Same as I wouldn't ask a police officer about a car that is driven by atleast several other officers. They can tell you only what they know from being behind the steering wheel not from being under the bonnet, when was the last time a police officer got the service book out and checked when it had its last service stamp or even knew when it had its last oil change!!

As I said (and not all forces are the same thats pretty obvious) my local force still maintain a police garage for minor repairs. They carry out all the usual tasks of fixing electric windows, bulbs, oil changes etc. The cars are then returned to the dealerships for main servicing and major repairing.

T16 - pitkin wouldn't have the tagline he has if he wasn't an augumentative SOB who likes nothing better to pass his days than a good wind-up. Treat as troll and you won't go far wrong... all IMO of course.
The questions that get the best answers are the questions that give most detail....

Try and keep things on topic folks, no need to start sniping at one another just because opinions differ - it's all useful advice :)

A family friend of ours was a traffic cop (now retired) and his advice (like Weird Nev's) was never buy an ex-police car. One minute they're sitting cold, the next they're getting the thrashing of their life. Don't think their high speed journeys don't include speed humps too - doesn't exactly do suspension components any favours.

Assuming most people want a car that will last them a while (as opposed to changing for a newer vehicle every 2-3 years) an ex-police vehicle is not the best option.

I don't think anyone has disagreed they aren't ran like a normal car. They can how ever be a good bargain depending on your needs. If your after a car you intend to keep for several cars maybe not the best option. They are maintained cars though, they have to be due to the nature of use.

Like buying any car its buyer beware I have been lucky with the ex police cars I have bought, so have other I know aswell others on this thread have too. I suspect others have had issues. Buying an exfleet car from auction or car used by an old man from a dealer doesn't guarantee you'll buy a perfect car without faults.

lol its not hard to wire them up to "wig wag", just a relay and some wire and some basic electronics knowledge.
