As expected, no personal experience of your own. I think I would go with Weird Nev on this one given that he drives them and sees how they are maintained."You should know not to believe everything in media & polls by now !"

LOL I now need personal experience to now how a police car is driven?? Its a well known fact they are driven hard it doesn't take a PC to tell you that surely??
As for the maintence I never claimed to have first hand experience but I made sure to find out about the ins and outs before buying one and asking someone WHO works on them rather than just drives them and gives them a wash was far more valuable to me. Like I said it worked out fine for me so i'm not complaining, I paid a lot less than market value for a car that I ran without spending a penny on it to sell it for more than I paid for. Free motoring.Everyones opinion is the most important.....no wonder nothing is ever agreed on.0 -
OK! Which rank do you have to be to get to drive this?

That's advertised with "in house" service history.0 -
If you do get one, check over it Very Carefully, nothing better than sitting in a control room, looking up at the Tracking map and suddenly having an extra unit on shift(Tracker not removed prior to Auction).0

No, personal experience of how they are maintained. Do pay attention at the back old chap."You should know not to believe everything in media & polls by now !"

I would have thought the dog vans would be the least ragged vehicles in the forces garage.
As people have said, they are often the most used, in my force there are only two 'home' bases for the dog unit. These cover around half the force each, often going from job to job.
On the plus side, they are serviced regularly, and should be fine under the bonnet. I would properly buy one if I had the chance. What is pi? Where did it come from?0 -
No, personal experience of how they are maintained. Do pay attention at the back old chap.
As I already said I never claimed to have FIRST HAND experience but I do have personal experience as I have discussed it at great lengths with a police force mechanic many times before and after purchasing two ex police vehicles myself. Just because I wasn't there with a spanner doesn't mean I am ill informed!!As people have said, they are often the most used, in my force there are only two 'home' bases for the dog unit. You must be mad, atleast according to others on this thread. Police cars are ragged to within an inch of their life, poorly serviced and totally abused so will never be viable as a 2nd user car/van.Everyones opinion is the most important.....no wonder nothing is ever agreed on.0 -
PC.
I used to drive one. Lost the turbo on the motorway at high speed once, it was quite spectacular and required a new engine!
But presumably in a special role such as Armed Response, Traffic like others have suggested?
Not many Beat PC's around here that I have seen drive those around.0 -
Other posts noted, however years ago I bought an ex-police motorcycle (a Honda 200 used by the local police, not one of the big BMW's), and ir never missed a beat. Maybe i was just lucky - eventually I part-exchanged it towards a car.0

You also quoted me in relation to the maintenance issue and then tried to claim that the quote you used was in relation to how police vehicles are driven. A bit disingenuous don't you think?"You should know not to believe everything in media & polls by now !"
