if you don't know any sparks you could join which? for a £1 and then you get access for a month to whichlocal? (don't forget to cancel after a month!)
This is a list of recommended trades in your local area - only which? members can put them onto the site and others review them. Might be a start
BTW I don't work for which!0 -
a new consumer unit will cost you about 300-450 quid. supply and fit.
as above though, as long as all the wires can reach the new terminals.
otherwise its a complete rewire at the same time. 2500 quid ish.[/QUOTE]
no it isnt
to the op
get a qoute from a number of electricians the pice will depend on a few factors
1. number of circuits
2. if bonding is in place or needs upgrading
3. tails need upgrading
4. if any fualts show up that trips the new rcd eg a borrowed neutral
5. if your earthing needs attention eg a new earth rod needs to be installed
also ensure that all work is certified and signed off by a part p registered electrician0 -

500 can be reasonable depending on the number of circuits and the setup but as ive said earlier get qoutes but remember cheapest is not always the best dont pay peanuts to hire monkeys especially on a consumer unit thats there to keep you and your fammily safe0 -
so you are saying some qualified sparkys are cowboys/monkeys?Get some gorm.0

Hey,
Ouchie. Wish I hadnt asked!
Thanks for your help. Guess I'll get a quote and see if they can make them reach. If not it'll be an e-bay frenzy and more saving than I had planned.

No need to pay for the Which? subscription, just look at the Direct.Gov list of professional organisations or the Competent Persons Register:
