    to the OP,
    disregard the left hand side.

The supply intake was the safest bit!

At least its grommeted unlike the RCCB

You lot think the above is bad, this is what I ripped out last year in the house.

That's not that bad. All the circuit cables (lead?) look properly glanded into the fuseboxes, earthing looks fairly recent. Tails from henleys to boxes look a bit weedy by modern standards but the boards are probably max ~40A each.

Putting the phone wiring on the meter board is naughty though.

Its T+E replaced the board and the tails and upgraded the earthing.

I hope the OP hasn't been scared off ;o))))

Phone sockets was a temp thing to be moved at a later date............

Would have been more impressive if the clamp was around the flowing water.

    Wowser!

Dont worry, it takes a lot to scare me off :-)

I'm in Berkshire, near Ascot / Reading.

You'll be pleased to know it looks like the first one. Its up really high and I'm not short but I cant see it all.

A fuse went a while ago and I did what every girl does (asked the dad) and he didnt know and asked an electrician....

I thought if it was fairly cheap (£200 -£300) then it'd be worth while in the long run to do.

Thanks for the advice and the photos!

If it looks like the first one, you can replace the fuses with cartridge fuses http://www.tlc-direct.co.uk/Main_Index/Consumer_Units_Index/Wylex_Standard_Carriers/index.html or circuit breakers http://www.tlc-direct.co.uk/Main_Index/Consumer_Units_Index/Wylex_Standard_Range/index.html

This will be much cheaper than a new fuseboard and if you are not having a complete rewire it is probably better than the bodging around which may be required to get the existing wires to reach to all the right places in a new fuseboard.

a new consumer unit will cost you about 300-450 quid. supply and fit.
as above though, as long as all the wires can reach the new terminals.
otherwise its a complete rewire at the same time. 2500 quid ish.
    Get some gorm.

    Hey,

    Ouchie. Wish I hadnt asked!

Thanks for your help. Guess I'll get a quote and see if they can make them reach. If not it'll be an e-bay frenzy and more saving than I had planned.

Thanks for your help and if anyone knows of a good registered sparky in my area pm me!
