I'm suprised they offered you anything - IMHO you are lucky!
Thank you!
I'd be delighted to get 5 months from a shop like that."Beautiful young people are accidents of nature, But beautiful old people are works of art."

The trick is to be a bit savvy. When you decide that you like a coat (whether it's £8 or £80) you should always check the following:
Are the seams neat and tidy, are the threads unravelling? Give them a tug! (not trying to rip them though, that's not on) Check especially the seams which get the most strain (in my case, round the hips!) or use, like those around the zips, cuffs, collar and bottom hem. The bottom/cuff hem should be a double hem too for strength.
Are the buttons all sewn on well, and is there a spare?
In the case of zips, check all the coats on the racks for problems - watch out for where they catch the material.
Even better, take someone who has made clothes for a living with you to give them a once-over. My mum used to do jackets for Dotty Ps.
And of course, if you don't mind about being fashionable, buy in the sales for next year!
I've had my £20 duffel coat from new look for at least two winters now. It's starting to look a bit old, and I've ripped the lining, but it's lasted because I checked the quality of the workmanship - I've worn it to death!
That said, I also have a 1970 denim jacket that used to be my Dad's, it was dear at the time but has lasted well, and only now is it starting to give up. That's quality you don't get anymore.Tsuki0
