Sliding Doors.......

Of course we don't know what life has in store for any of us so you never really know whether a particular environment or experience would change anything, for better or worse. (I'm curious as to which is which btw, where's the better school?)
I'm simplifying things far too much. It's just one aspect (an important one mind, but just one of many which affects others too). Just ignore me.Herman - MP for all!0 -
My sliding doors moment was going flat hunting when I was a student. We lost out on the house and got a bus home. We got on the wrong bus, decided to go to a pub that we had passed and in there was my future husband and dad to my two kids. We would never have met if it wasn't for getting on that bus and I know exactly what I'd be doing right now if I hadn't met him.0

I met a guy on the internet when I was 17 and we were talking for a few months before we met up, and it was one hot night I tell you! he texted me on my 18th birthday saying he just wanted to be friends and I was devasted
I started going out with my ex just after and the first guy begged me to give him another chance but I refused out of pride/spite at being embarrased but I liked him sooooo much. Seeing as my ex turned out to be a violent bully I wonder what would have happened if I had thawed and gone out with the first guy.0 -

Dressed like a (lusty) wench I suddenly became interesting to one of the regulars, who decided he was going to try and poach me from my then boyfriend who also worked there ... it worked, but he wasn't interested in a relationship. The boyfriend started seeing someone else, then I wanted him back and he was messing both of us around, then we started working together in the day at a factory, as well as at the pub, it was too much and I was making myself ill, out every night, living on a diet of Guinness and fags. I packed in both jobs, had a little bit saved so thought I'd go and visit my brother for a week and then my best friend who was living in Somerset at the time as her husband was stationed there.
A few days after I arrived in Somerset I saw a job advertised in a printers for a paste-up-artist, my mate persuaded me to ring them up, they said 'blimey, we've had that job advertised for months and couldn't find anyone, and the area manager's here today and could interview you' So without a portfolio or references I managed to convince him I could do the job and started the following monday.
That was 25 years ago this year. I met my husband about 2 months after arriving here, he was the friend of a friend and I didn't even fancy him at first, and wasn't looking for a relationship, but he'd offered to take me out and introduce me to a wider social circle. We went out for a drink one night and that was it, he moved in with me 4 weeks later.Over futile odds
And laughed at by the gods
And now the final frame

The night I met my DH, he had been out with friends and they'd planned to go to a particular club......where you couldn't wear jeans! But one of the group had not realised, and had turned up in jeans...so they had to go on to somewhere else.
On our way to get a taxi, me & my pal had decided to buy chips (we NEVER normally did this...ever!!) and as we came out of the chip shop...one of my now DH's friends asked me for a chip...we ended up sharing a taxi to another club and have now been married for 12 years!! If the first friend had worn the correct smart trousers or the other friend hadn't asked me for a chip...who knows if we'd ever have met?? :rotfl:20p Saver Club #33 60p/£100

12 years ago, I has just come out of a relationship and made some new friends, including a girl who had a BF at the time who was a friend. because I am someone who can never read women, did not know she liked me liked me, until she made it very obvious one night, it freaked me out a bit, as I always saw her as friend, plus she had a bf, and he was a mate. She went to go to the states, but 10 years later we met by chance reconnected had a son, and broke up, mainly due to me working away. and she playing away with an ex.....I always wonder what would have happened if we had hooked up back then...would we have had a child, or would we have lasted longer.0

I went up to London to see a play, performed 'in the round'. Sitting across the stage from me was a chap who looked JUST like someone I'd known from school (and not much liked). At the end of the performance, the group he was with walked around the stage and right in front of me, so I said "hello".
We chatted, he wanted an address I could get for him so gave me his address (no mobiles or email in those days!), we started writing ... and this year we celebrate our Pearl wedding anniversary!
And to think, he could have escaped all that if he'd walked the other way out of the theatre ...Signature removed for peace of mind0 -
Wow, thanks for the replies.
Its nice to know other people have a life that could have swung down another path due one decision and they think about it (once in a while)Please note I have a cognitive disability - as such my wording can be a bit off, muddled, misspelt or in some cases i can miss out some words totally...0 -
What a lovely thread. Really enjoyed reading it so I thought I'd add to it.
My story is a bit weird. I met my ex OH when I was 15 and it was the start of a rollercoaster ride, the same year I met my now Fiance, both were at the same college but hated one another although we mixed in the same social circle. I married my ex OH in 2006 but had never forgotten about the other one until we bumped into eachother when I was 22, it was on a Friday nite ( It was always my ex that went into the off licence for our weekend wine) but for some reason I went, I was in front in the queue and heard someone call my name, I looked around & my now fiance was smiling at me!
Needless to say, my marriage didnt work out for various reasons and in July 2008 a few months later I met my OH at a party at a friends house and the rest is history! We are getting married on 20th July 2012. We met for the 1st time on 21st July 2002. So the day after we get married will be like our ''10th Anniversary'' LOL. I am very very happy and I'm no longer known as 'The One That Got Away'.

Seems we all believe meeting out OH's as out sliding door moment
I'm not going to waste tradition.....
Me and this guy went out at high school, I was 14, he was just turned 15. I fell head over heels in love with him, only the way a teenager can :rotfl: But he dumped me after 3 months
Heartbroken, I tried to get over him. Left school when I was 16, went to college. Girl in my class asked me up to her house one night. I didn't really want to go, but she insisted and wouldn't take no for an answer. In her house that night, her neighbour across the drive chaps the door to talk to my friend's brother.
Turned out that neighbour was my childhood sweetheart! Talk about random meetings! In fact, our Humanist Celebrant told that story at our wedding September 2010, been together almost ever since that night in 2001 xCan't think of anything smart to put here...0
