Dust allergy sufferer - recommend a vacuum!

Hey,
I'm just about to get my first flat, hurrah, and I need to get vacuum cleaner for it.
The thing is, I'm a big dust allergy sufferer - house dust + dust mites.
I have to take an anti-histamine every day or else I'll spend the day sneezing and with a running nose just like having a medium cold/heavy hayfever, and in general I'm normally pretty bunged up which affects my breathing.
When I go somewhere new I'm typically better, I know my current place therefore is part of the problem due to its dust, and I want to get off on the right foot with my new place and ensure I have good clean air and a vacuum that will suck up this dust and keep it secure.
I was checking out some cheap Vax vacuums on sale at Argos and they seemed ok, although the net tells me they're unreliable. I then looked at Dyson which seemed good for power but again the net tells me they can expel dust back into the atmosphere which kinda ruins the point of sucking up the dust in the first place! I've read great things about Miele.
Can anyone out there offer thoughts on dust allergy sufferers and vacuums that work now and for the future please and help, not create, the problem.
I know in my new place I'll only have one chance to start 'right' and go from there so I'm happy to spend if needed, if it means I get years of good air.
Oh, and the new flat isn't big so I don't need a monster!
Thanks in advance!

Hi
Not sure whether this helps would a family member is allergic to dust. We bought a Samsung HEPA filter vac but we had to replace the filter after only 6 months. The cost was half of the vacuum! I think you can get lifetime HEPA filters on some vacuums and perhaps get free replacements? Hope it helps, something to look out for anyway!0 -
I have a Miele "Cat & Dog", which does an amazing job of cleaning and the filters don't let anything back out. They are also incredibly reliable, I know people that have had them for decades.
I would not recommend a Vax - I had one which broke after 18 months.0 -
may be it is a good idea to ask a shop assistant which VC is suitable for that purpose. I ve read that steam cleaning is good as well, check it."I'll be back."0

you can buy a dyson from john lewis fofr £159.99
as for the allergy i used to have mild hay fever to dust etc. I tried a herbal remedy by taking a cup of camomille every morning for a few weeks and it certainly helped in reducing my sneezing.0 -

The Vorwerk is a German vacuum and specifically made for asthma sufferers and dust mite allergies. We have had ours for 22 years as OH had very bad asthma. You can hoover mattresses too. Its not cheap but its the best vacuum I have ever known. You cant buy it in shops but there is a good service in Britain and I just ring up every now and again for replacement parts:- bags, brushes, rollers etc.0

I too suffer from dust allergies and recently spent 20 minutes talking to the vacuum specialist in John Lewis and came away with a Miele S5280 Solution HEPA Cylinder - I cannot praise it highly enough. It was not cheap (currently £229 as it has £50 off) but in my opinion, was well worth the money.
The Dyson Animal I had which was supposedly as good as you could get for allery sufferers has been useless for some time and was never that good in the first place!0 -
Try an industrial air filter....https://www.abrasivesplus.com and search for air filters which clean down to 0.04 micron0

My parents have had a beam built in vacuum for over 15 years, had to replace a couple of parts in that time but nothing expensive. Almost silent and all of the dust is removed to the central unit which is usually fitted in the garage. seriously powerful as well. Dont know the cost now, but when they bought it, it was around 600 installed.
