Sam_Bee wrote:I reckon, in true MSE style, for very close to you figure, you could get to Malaysia - probably a cheap 3* in Penang for 8-10 days. May is incredibly cheap time to fly.. And it's cheap whilst you are there. Why not try Travelmood or Travelbag or similar for a quick quote.
I regularly used to price together 10 nights at the Ferringhi Beach Hotel in Penang for around £415 in May for my old company.
Where can I get a deal like this?
Wouldn't mind getting away late may for a week or 5 days. To somewhere like malaysia or bali or somewhere!?!?!?
Any ideas?0 -

Mizz_Pink wrote:Hi
We got married 27th May last year ! Congratulations
We stayed at the Gran Hotel Costs Melonaras for a week half board for £450 each which was an absolute bargain!! The hotel was amazing and we love Gran Canaria.
We booked through Hays Travel but this march's hol we booked through https://www.otbeach.com
I'll have a look for you now while I have nothing to do !!
Thanks Mizz_Pink,
that does sound like a bargain! we have only ever been self catering or B & b before. with the half board could you choose if you wanted the dinner or tea?
or is it like a set thing? sorry if that is a really dense question!!
Thanks again

Mizz_Pink wrote:This looks good:
Fly from East Mids, 29th May at 3.35pm
Return 12th June land at 1.45am (ouch)
2 weeks bed and brek at 4* Cynthiana Beach Hotel,Paphos, Cyprus, Superior Twin with Sea view
£1247.22 for 2 people, no inc insurance or transfers (we use Holidaytaxis.com)
Good for Cyprus, i thought that was an expensive place.
Use holidaysuncovered, TripAdvisor and Holiday Watchdog for hotel reviews
Thanks again Mizz_Pink,
that does look good! friends of ours as well as my mum have been to Cyprus and they say it is lovely but expensive when you get there. think we might save Cyprus for next year when we may have finished paying for the wedding.
Isn't it amazing how many things you never knew you 'needed' for your wedding until you start planning! EEK! 3 months tomorrow!)
i use trip advisor (hence thought i had posted my original post in there as i mentioned earlier! and use holidaytruths.co.uk have never used holidays uncovered or holiday watchdog so thanks for the tip, i will have a look at those today)
thanks so much for your help,
hope we are all straightened out now

2 weeks GRAN HOTEL COSTA MELONERAS, Gran Canaria
From Birmingham 28th May at 6.15pm, return flight lands 04.05am, ouch (again)
B&B , twin room for £1,288.83
This hotel was amazing, with an infinity pool. We have photos of this hotel as it was where we honeymoo'd!!
We can advise on the best restaurants etc as we have been the 'naria for 4 times so far
I think both those prices are good for 2 weeks, as the accommodation is high quality. The Gran is 5*.
Hi again!
thanks for this one too! we have not seriously considered Gran Canaria before, (not at all meant to come across as being 'funny' or snobby...)
but in my head, my previous thought of gran canaria are where lager louts with union jack shorts, drinking cheap lager all day, and moaning about eating that 'foreign muck!'
think i may have got it confused with other resorts, in spain maybe?
have had a look following your suggestion and it looks lush!!
thanks for the suggestion, it is truly somewhere we would not have looked at before, and being misguided in our previous assumptions mean we would have not even considered Gran Canaria at all!
thanks so much, our short list cannot be considered short anymore!

researcher wrote:Of all the Greek islands I think Santorini is one of the best - I'd have a search to see if anything is available for there. I believe flights leave on a Tuesday.
Another idea I have is Turkey, there are some very lovely places - have a look at Dalyan, it's one place I've returned to a few times. It's also very much cheaper than Spain/Greece.
Usually there are lots of bargains to be had in May - I've found that the best prices are found when booked about 3 weeks before departure.
Are you a gambler?
Another thing, do you collect Tesco clubcard points? Exchanged for Deals they are worth 4 x value, and both XL and Cosmos have european holidays/flights available.
Thanks very much,
have to say we have been a bit closed minded considering Turkey as we went to Bodrum for the day from Kos and was not that Keen. prefered Kos by far. although i brought so much gorgeous silver jewellery that day in turkey, it might be worth revisiting just for that!!
have added Santorini to our short list as it has been mentioned a few times and looks so gorgeous!
we are happy to take a gamble and book just before the wedding, never done this before but if it could be the best way to get more for our money then it will be worth waiting on tenderhooks!!
thanks for the clubcard tip, don't often go to Tesco but might have to start now! usually go to asda or morrisons but you get no reward point at either so may be worth the extra drive!
thanks again
