    thank you guys... just one more question, what happens if i do not get a receipt or a confirmation that it was full and final settlement?

    do you think its likely to happen?

  • if you have not had any written conformation within a week then just ring them back and give them a firm reminder that you are still waiting for a letter stating that the debt is settled .

  • Right - perspective check.

    Firstly, a debt collection agency for Amazon probably work on a contingency basis, i.e. they keep a percentage of whatever they collect. Say they get 30%, its not worth wasting too much time on is it? They may well abort the account back to Amazon, but they may in turn bounce it round every debt collection agency in the country!

    If they went to court, which granted is unlikely, a claim form can be validly served at the last known address, so this is not necessarily a way out.

    If I was you I would dispute the debt properly, i.e. write to the DCA (Red Castle Recoveries?) and explain why you dispute the debt. Chances are they will refer it back to Amazon for them to deal with.

    Reclaimed my bank charges - got £250 back from HSBC and £88 from First Direct :)
