sky contract due to end - any deals to be had?

hi
my sky contract is due to end 12 feb.
i currently have
sky talk anytime (phone)
sky broadband (2gb lite user)
sky tv (with knowledge pack & home)
total £39.75 per month.
was just wondering if it would be worth asking for a better deal - I mentioned about unlimited broadband and thats an extra £7.50 per month. They said that's the best they can do when I spoke to them recently.
Can't move to Virgin as no Virgin TV in this area.
BT Vision don't have discovery channels etc - which is what I mainly use.
any ideas.

sky are offering free line rental for 12 months today, just threaten to leave!!!0

I have a very similar package (Broadband is unlimited though) but have phone and same TV package plus the kids channels. The latest deal from Sky for new customers is for unlimited upto 20MB for a £5 a month for 12 months. So they can do better if you are a new customer. I also get my line rental via Sky.
I plan to make a phone call to Sky to see if they can help me reduce my month outgoings, I will not threaten to leave at this stage. I am however considering it, I will try and live with freeview. As for Broadband deals, check out one of the comparison sites, I can get a better deal via Primus but limited to 40GB, Plusnet, Tesco, Orange and TalkTalk can all match or better the Sky £5 a month offer (orange give you a free printer). Tesco and Orange are the only two that offer unlimited (although I do need to read the small print). As I said I am just thinking about it, but want the figures so I can discuss with Sky. Also look at setup costs, the Primus one I am considering is £4.95 to send you the wireless router, although I really do think it is about time ISP just gave you settings to configure, I don't want the cheapest bit kit they have for free, I want something that meets my needs.
Whilst I think I will be able to live without Sky TV, I really don't want to be limited as i often watch online iplayer, lovefilm etc. The Primus deal is £3 a month with a 40GB limit.
Before you try and haggle with Sky I have found it is best to know what options you have, you need to know what you will do if they call your bluff. You should also check out the haggle thread, some good tips and pointers of what you can expect.0 -

the system shows what offers are available on your account so they can't offer something that isn't there, offers in cancellations are only made once you threaten to cancel/leave, if you phone looking for an offer it is unlikely they will make one but not impossible0 -
Hi,
Maybe this could be of some help:
I rang Sky yesterday and told them that I wanted a HD box and would like to cancel my Sky TV because a VM rep was calling house to house and they offered me 6months free subscription with a 6months half price line rental for the remainder of the 12months.
The Sky representative said she can give the HD (standard box) for free with a monthly fee of £5.25 for 12months AND with a 25% discount for 12months off Sky TV bill ONLY. However, there would be a £15 installation charge.
But I also pushed for the multiroom having read certain comments on MSE and said that I wish to use my existing Sky+ box in another room. I also mentioned that a friend of mine got 12months free multiroom. So in the end, we have:
Sky HD Box (Standard)
Half Price HD subscription: £5.25 (normally £10.25)
Free multiroom Subscription (normally £10.50, I think it was)
Free setup and installation (normally £15)
25% off Sky TV Bill ONLY.
I think that is a reasonable offer having been paying £25 for Sky TV with a Sky+ box for over a year. But now got more things for less.
Also, to get a 1TB HD box would cost £49 (instead of the usual £249) - I tried getting this but nothing could be done to the one off cost of the 1TB box.
hope this helps a little.0 -

Its on your account, you need to discuss your account with retentions. You need to have been with them for Line rental and broadband for over 12 months.
I called Sky to discuss my account, I approached it from the angle that new customers were getting this and I can get these deals if I go to other ISP's. First person I spoke to said nothing we can do you pay full whack or you can cancel I said ok can I have a MAC code please) I was only going to cancel my Broadband, I was keeping the TV package. Anyway, despite me asking for the 6 months free deal they are offering new customers, which would save me £7.50 x 6. They gave me free line rental for a year, 12 x £12.25 a far better saving than what I was asking.:T
Also offered me half price movies and skysports for 12 months which I declined (I'm trying to save money).
So for the OP I was paying £40.25 a month, I'm now paying £28.00 for Ulimited BB, Line rental, Entertainment pack + kids channels, would think you will get similar, my 12 months on the BB was up Oct 11, but I've had TV with them for years.0 -
I have just got the same discount deals as Jayu619 this very afternoon and you can see more on this thread.

I know you watch Discovery etc but equally Sky will not know that, so the best deals clearly come if you threaten to go somewhere else. I was seriously looking at switching to BT (I can't get Virgin either) and would have left if they had not done me a good deal, so it was not an idle threat in my case, but again as long as you sound convincing then I think there are deals to be had.
I got an excellent deal and have already put a note on my icloud diary to remind me to get in touch at the start of December to prevent my deal from going back up to full price.
Good luck!0 -
After getting a deal, which I was happy with, on TV ie got £100 M&S vouchers, free P&P on HD 1TB, free service call where they did most of the installation of HD box and then free installation of existing sky+ box into a bedroom which meant running new cable round the house etc all just before Christmas though might get better deal out of sky re broadband especially had loads of problems and with out it for 2 weeks over Christmas.
So v surprised that when asked for MAC code they just gave it to me. I asked if they could do a deal and they said no as in my area they use BT and that the fee covers the cost that they are charged! So that is that it seems, the TV side will bend over backwards to do a deal if you speak to them but then they are in control on that, if they don't have the phone/broadband line seems you are scuppered!
If you go to samknows.com then you can find your exchange and which companies are in there, for mine it is O2 and talktalk!
Talk Talk is offering me a deal which includes free evening and w/end + 0845/0871 calls, 40GB and should get 2.4 meg broadband (currently get upto 1.4 meg max, the increase is due to them having their equipment in the exchange) and is inclusive of line rental and VAT for £17.09 a month. When compared to the BT line rental and SKY rental of approx £35 is a good deal - the only prob is talktalk brand is of past not known for the good customer service. But have spoken to a neighbour who is with them and they initially had bad service 4 years ago but now get 3.2 meg and no problems apart from the usual slowing down of service at 4 - 5pm when all the kids (including mine) come home and log on to do their homework (whatever happened to paper and pens lol). Also as the exchange is due to go FTTC in March n as SKY are being a dinosaur in regard to that service, and if TalkTalk are already in the exchange they 'MAY' upgrade to it (subject to all the limitations) it pains me to say think will be going over to TalkTalk! :think:0 -

Hang on in there...I gave notice on 21/12 and was immediately offered a 25% discount on my TV package for 6 months. I turned it down on the basis I could probably do better if I hung on. Sky rang me last week, but I couldn't speak to them as my baby son was in hospital...then again yesterday just I was about to leave for footy training with my teenager...then again this evening when I finally had time to deal with it. Got 50% discount on my TV package for 12 months with a free basic HD box to replace my old multi room box. There is no tie in to the deal either just the usual 1 month cancellation. This was a TV deal only as my phone and broadband is paid for by my OHs employers and we have to use BT...he said he could also have given me a deal on this if I'd been interested.0
