Dirty Neighbours, House in extreme disrepair

The tragedy is that the lady is in need of help which her daughter is not providing- it's just easier to abuse someone else.
I fully support the ladies right to live as she wishes even letting the house rot around her, but not when it spills over on to your land.
Q If you are nice to them will that change the fact that they have no funds?
Here's another point of view- you can take out a private action for the verbal abuse and the damage to you home and life and property, and seek an injunction- the pressure of that and the Police might have to actually lock her up for breaching it, might rally round the council and social services to do something.
As to the Local Authority use the complaint procedure to escalate action right through to the ombudsman as in this case I am sure you can prove financial loss.
It doesn't matter how poor or old you are- have some dignity and standards, and where the capacity to do so is lost, family should intervene not enable as it's the easier route.Stop! Think. Read the small print. Trust nothing and assume that it is your responsibility. That way it rarely goes wrong.
Actively hunting down the person who invented the imaginary tenure, "share freehold"; if you can show me one I will produce my daughter's unicorn0 -
I'd go with the air-rifle approach. Once you've slotted 10 or so, they start to realise they are in a bit of danger and move on.
(Pigeons, not neighbours btw)0 -
I would just like to say that I am not in favour of shooting the old lady with the air rifle and I think that that is a bit much for people to be suggesting at this juncture.0

Although you feel there is nothing you can do. Two things you have done have worked:
1.) You got them to remove the tree
2.) You Wrote and asked them to stop chucking stuff over your fence and it stopped.
So they are open to doing something about it. You could write a letter explaining about the pidgeon problem and how much it has impacted you. If it's low cost (ie just boarding up a hole), explain how simple a solution it would be to solve. Thank them for their co-operation with the tree etc. Maybe send the flowers as suggested. Being nice can go a long way.MSE Forum's favourite nutter :T0 -
You could get in trouble with the police if you shot the pigeons with an air rifle, it`s classed as Discharging a Firearm in Public.
I occassionally have a pigeon that sits on top of my chimney and I`ve got to admit, I`ve thought about shooting it.
I think I`d speak to a pest control expert and see what they recommend then if all else fails, get camouflaged up and buy an air gun

I live in a flat in a town centre and am driven mad by pigeons. A number of solutions have crossed my mind - including what so far has only amounted to fantaising about shooting them. I have yet enacted this for a couple of concerns that maybe someone here could help with?
1) As mentioned above, discharging an air rifle within 15 ft (?) of a public highway is illegal, isn't it?
2) I live in a town, and I'd have no idea where the pellet would land if it didn't end up in a pigeon. Is it possible to buy an air rifle powerful and accurate enough to dispatch a pigeon, but not powerful enough to penetrate the skull of a passing shopper? How dangerous are falling metal pellets as they arch back down to earth?
3) How does one go about purchasing an air rifle anyway, what are the legal requirements? Do you need to be a member of a club or pass some kind of sanity test?0 -
could you get a ladder one night when its dark and fill up the hole with expanded polystyrene..... ? end of access for pigeons...0
