Have been overpaying the mortgage because we have such limited equity and are stuck on a punitive rate, after January's payment and phoning to check, we can finally move to a better (1.4% better) product with no fees. As we have a £150k mortgage, that's a saving in interest alone of £2100 a year (not quite actually as repayment).
The payments we diverted from cards to achieve it are now proved well worthwhile.

Challenge 1 : Remortgage to better rate - ACHIEVED FEB
Challenge 2 : Pay off two debts (net) by December - Ongoing
Challenge 3 : Go a whole month without alcohol - ACHIEVED JAN 31
    Challenge 4 : Find a new job : Ongoing
Challenge 5 : Take Lunch to work more than 3 times a week - Ongoing (Jan was a full house!)
Challenge 6 : Find a seamstress to modify bargain bucket clothes - Achieved, but not tested yet
Challenge 7 : Empty jingle jar and overpay a card - ACHIEVED (over £120 !!!)
Challenge 8 : Improve driving efficiency by 10% - Monitoring/Ongoing, but decluttered to ensure minimum weight already
Challenge 9 : ALWAYS remember to check cashback sites before purchasing online - Ongoing
Challenge 10: Overpay all remaining bank account cash the day after payday - Ongoing

    Great start to the year!!

Good luck to everyone with their personal challenges and goals for 2012.

Ohhh well done anh on what you have achieved so far - the mortgage one esp sounds like it took a bit of working on but really well worth the effort!

It sounds like you have really got into the MSE way of thinking too - its great how this site can help change little habits and help to save money at the same time!

Hopefully you will let us know what wee things you manage to do each day to help you achieve your goals as well - we might all pick up some tips ;)

Wow i had a really productive day yesterday and earned 9 :):):):):):):):):) for things done off my list, how cool is that!! :D thats the most i have managed in a day since feeling really low there last week!

Hopefully i will keep my productivity levels and smilies up again today while i work on the remaining items on my list and a few new ones:

    1. boost swaggers points to 450 - i'm on 401 so hopefully i will make it today

    2. contact aviva - got a weird letter from them yesterday so need to find out what they on about

    3. sort out a $ cheque to get cashed - even if i just get the envelope written today that will be a step in the right direction with this one :rotfl:

    4. Contact mortgage co to ask for monthly statements if possible

    5. find brush set and bag for orders

    6. look for ppi paperwork - where on earth have i put this??? I know its in a folder somewhere??? lol

    7. look for postal receipts for ebay things that 'went missing in the post'. First part of this one is to write a list of the things that went missing and the relevant postcodes - again i will try to do this bit at least today.

    8. check postage cost for fb sale and email buyer

    9. contact esa about all the info i sent them and i need back to include in appeal

    10. start to write my reasons for appeal so i can take it with me to help me remember what to say.

    11. phone for bone scan results

    12. do some of my craft things to help me relax.

    13. try and complete a survey for my survey a day challenge

    14. do superpoints clicks

    15. update earning blog.

Lets see how i get on with these today - i want lots more smilies lol!!

Hope you all have a very smilie Friday :D xxx

    Good morning everyone

As always I'm an early riser although 5.45am for a Saturday morning was a little early even for me

5 smilies for me yesterday :D:D:D:D:D but I have to admit to looking forward to the day I achieve 10 (now that would be an outbreak of different smilies :p )

I can't decide whether to make a last minute dash to Newcastle today to see my beautiful DD1 if last minute Alfie Boe tickets are released (he is performing at The Sage tonight) Fingers crossed that they are, I can get some and the decision is done and dusted ;)

So here is my wish list for today
    1. Shop at Morrisons - I have a save £6 wys £40
    2. Pull sofas out and vacuum
    3. Prune and tidy front garden
    4. De-clutter Governor paperwork
    5. Empty another 'cube'
    6. List ebay
    7. Compile medical file
    8. De-clutter more paperwork
    9. Ring and try to get better competitive payments for electric and home/building insurance
    10. See Alfie Boe tonight :happyhear    Oh yes - he was amazing

Don't forget that you did actually achieve things yesterday despite having to run after DH all day - so a big WELL DONE!!! for that :D
