Hi everyone, Please can you help me. I have over time written to banks and credit card companies asking for a refund of fees and late payment fees, most of which have said NO to. However, things have got much tighter here and want to try again, what should I do? Is there a letter I could send saying that we are in desperate straights and need refund or else we may default on loans/cards we have with these companies? I also wanted to ask them to reduce interest rates as some cards at 24.9% now which is astronomical. Your help would be most appreciated, dont know what to do next.

Since the banks won the court case there has been very little you can do.
You need to point out you are in financial hardship. Make them aware of any arrears you have or any defaults that have occurred. They will look at your finances and consider if the charges situation is an issue for you. However, you are totally reliant on their goodwill.I am an Independent Financial Adviser (IFA). I too have been denied bank charges being reclaimed, however I recently lost my job and am now on job seekers as well as having -£300 on one card and -£300 on a credit card. Is there anyway I can say that I have entered a period of financial hardship and I need the bank charges from 3 years ago repayed?0

The charges taken 3 years ago have nothing to do with your current situation. So, they can refuse on that basis.
Financial hardship is generally viewed as having arrears or being in a spiral of charges you cannot get out of. All you can do is ask and the bank may consider it but if you apply expectation to what is generally happening, then you would think not. Attention - Monday Blues - If you have incurred credit card charges then these are still reclaimable, if your lender says no then write to the FOS, it will take many months but you will get the cash back eventually.
Unfortunately there is not much you can do about the disgusting bank charges at the moment, except a bank robbery!0
