nothing obvious wrong, but you could try the following
scan with tdsskiller
uninstall soluto, superantispyware, spybot, secunia, google update (probably bundled with toolbar/chrome or earth), opendns,
disable filehippo updater using msconfig
disable roxio hard drive watcher using services.msc
if you have under 2GB of ram, install cleanmem
disable java quick starter
are you using a vodafone mobile connection?!!
> . !!!! ----> .0 -
scan with tdsskiller - Do you have a link to a decent site to download this from as I didn't like the one I found, pcperformer?
uninstall soluto, superantispyware, spybot, secunia, google update (probably bundled with toolbar/chrome or earth), opendns, - I can't find google update in add/remove programs, the rest I use occasionally
disable filehippo updater using msconfig - I use this all the time and find it useful to ensure I have the latest versions of everything
disable roxio hard drive watcher using services.msc - I can't find how to disable this in services.msc
if you have under 2GB of ram, install cleanmem - I have 4GB of ram
disable java quick starter - How do I do this?
are you using a vodafone mobile connection?- No so I have uninstalled it
I have again updated to the latest version of Opera 11.61 since installing OpenDNS and it seems to be working OK, but this could be temporary.0 -
see the speedup sticky and previous post re java/google.
http://support.kaspersky.com/downloads/utils/tdsskiller.exe
right click on the service, properties, disable.
The more things running at startup, the more chance for problems and slowness - this stuff is running constantly.!!
> . !!!! ----> .0 -
Thanks.
I ran tdsskiller and it came up clean.
I think I have disabled Roxio.
When I went to disable google updater there were 2 listed. I use Gmail. Will disabling both of these mean Gmail won't be updated?0 -
It used to update the software I mentioned - google toolbar/chrome or earth!!
> . !!!! ----> .0 -
Don't use the toolbar and very rarely use G Earth so both now disabled.0

Unless it's an interaction with something else on your system I don't think it's opera itself - my 11.61 is behaving itself fine, the hard bit will be tracking down what it's conflicting with.......Gettin' There, Wherever There is......
I have a dodgy "i" key, so ignore spelling errors due to "i" issues, ...I blame Apple0 -
Since flushing the DNS, using OpenDNS, running CCleaner again and reinstalling 11.61 for the 3rd or 4th time, it seems to be running OK for now.
As Closed said that OpenDNS shouldn't make any difference if FF was working OK, I am guessing the flushing the DNS might have been the solution, although I have carried out some of the other suggestions since then.
Thanks for all the help and I will be back if it starts playing up again.0 -
flushing the DNS is more likely to have done the trick...also reset the winsock stack:-
open a cmd prompt, and type "netsh winsock reset catalog/ " without the quotes and with the space after the slash and press enter. You'll have to reboot once it's done (it tells you as much)
