Really? I've never seen that before. Any ideas how to get that to work?
I don't know how, but whenever I try to send money via PayPal Gift funded from my Amex (rather than my bank) it always says theres a fee, and asks me if I want to pay it or vice versa.
Nothing I say represents any past, present or future employer.

I've never paid a fee, either as sender or receiver, when using gift payments.

Gift payments are actually only free if they come from an existing paypal balance. Someone posted the link here once- and as usual I can't now find it.

Ah, I see. I've only ever paid from a Paypal balance which would explain why I've never paid fees.
  • I use this website. On the bottom left you can enter the amount you want them to receive and it'll tell you how much you need to send them.

    http://ppcalc.com/uk

So for them to receive £150, you need to send them £155.49

The only difference in fees is if you have a merchant account and sufficient sales volumes in the previous month.

You can only use micro payments for values below £5. As soon as you go above that its the standard fee structure. So for pretty much most people, it will suffice.

No its not - the micropayment account fee structure is the same no matter how much the transaction is for. This makes it more expensive than a standard account for any payment received over a certain amount.

Thank heavens a micro can accept larger payments as otherwise I would have been stuck a few times. I have put something up expecting it to be a sub £10 item, only to find it goes for £50- and I've linked the same to my micro account. Queue slapping myself on forehead!

I'm not exactly sure what the level is for a micro to work out cheaper- it used to be £12 but I htothought it was about £9-£10 now.

Yes, its around that figure. Take a £10 payment for example...

    Standard - £10 x 3.4% = £0.34 + 20p = £0.54

    Micro - £10 x 5% = £0.50 + 5p = £0.55

...so getting cheaper at this point for the standard account.
