Does anyone know how much paypal fees are

I'm going to buy some tools from someone and they said i could pay through paypal as gift or goods, but if i pay as goods i need to pay the 5% fees, so as it's £150 i will be paying as goods so would anyone know what % paypal fees are.

Paypal doesn't cost the buyer anything but I guess you are wondering how much it's going to cost the seller who seems to have told you 5%, is that right?

    Found this on ebay/paypal

With PayPal, you only pay 1.4% to up to 3.4% plus 20p per transaction.

Thanks for your reply. Yes the seller told me i need to add 5% on top of the £150 so he gets his £150, now i don't know if 5% is correct as i just booked a courier and they are charging 2% to use paypal.

For us private sellers its 3.4% plus 20p per transaction.

The rate goes down if you make lots of transactions if I remember rightly.

If you pay as a gift, there are no fees to the vendor BUT you get no protection from paypal if anything goes wrong. Ideal for gifts etc between family/friends.
  • Don't know if you had a chance to look at those links, especially the 2nd one but from what I gather, up to £150,000 the seller has to pay 3.4% plus 20p. If they earn more than £150,000 in a month then they pay less which is probably the case for the courier.

Sorry, my maths is terrible but basically, you need to work out whether you think the difference between 3.4% of £150 (plus that wretched 20p!) and 5% of £150 is worth worrying about.
  • Right, thanks google!

    5% of £150 = £7.50
    3.4% of £150 = £5.10 (+ that 20p) = £5.30

Difference £2.20 - its up to you whether you think that is reasonable

You pay as a gift and they fail to send the goods you get nothing.

No goods and no claim for anything, You sent them a gift which is non refundable.

There is an option where when you send money through PayPal, you tell it you want to send £150 AND pay the fees.
Nothing I say represents any past, present or future employer.

Sorry? What was 6%? Have you quoted the right post? Paypal have never charged 6% as far as I know!
