Seller requires "collection in person" but courier not acceptable... unfair?

I would imagine they don't want to stay in for hours waiting for a courier.
If you collect it's your responsibility, if a courier collects then the lines are blurred.
If a courier collects it's still my responsibility... one can specify a time and date for a courier to collect, so they're not late. Have you ever used Shiply.com? Independent couriers are different to the ones used by large shops when you order, say, a washing machine.steveo3002 wrote: »thing is a courier will mean they have to wait in all day and package it up to a good standard , collection in person should be able to narrow it down to a hour or so when it suits both , like at the weekend or something
IF you'd read my original post you would have seen he has no requirement to wrap. I can specify to a courier on shiply to collect on weekend. You have asked if you can arrange courier & they have said no. I don't think the seller is being unreasonable, because you don't like the answer.
There are potential issues with allowing a buyer to arange a courier. Mainly dishonest buyers claiming item not received (paying through Paypal) or courier causing damage in transit and seller being liable, having to wait in for courier to arrive. If the seller thinks it will be simpler to do a cash on collection transaction where buyer has a chance to inspect item that's fair enough. It's their choice. I would forget it & move on since the terms of sale don't work for you.
It doesn't seem you know much about eBay. You can't purchase an item and then 'inspect'... inspections should occur before bids are made. Also, all eBay sellers are required to accept paypal and cannot insist on cash.bylromarha wrote: »Are you seriously telling me you would book a courier, tell the seller a relative was collecting, expect the seller to wait in all day as you weren't sure when your relative would collect, then be surprised that the courier would refuse the parcel as it wasn't packaged up and the seller would probably not pass the item on anyway when the big yellow DHL van (or whatever courier) turns up on the doorstep?
Buyer doesn't seem to have caught onto ebay practices...
Again you never read the original post - why reply if you're not reading? No wrap required, can specify time and date for collection. It's not DHL but self employed courier.Candlemoth wrote: »The contract is between you and the seller, they set the rules in regards to how you get your item not ebay. If you arrange pick up when seller states you need to collect it and the company break the item you would still be responsible for paying for delivery and the item.
that's fine = courier has insuranceI have a few collection only items- I will NOT allow a buyer to send a courier under any circumstances at all. If something can be easily packed and boxed for a courier then I would have offered one.
again you didn't even read the original post, I said wrapping not required :T0 -
I think you would be on my blocked bidder list now just in case...0

Blah blah blah....
YOU seem to be missing the point that the seller does not have to accept a courier turning up on their door step instead of the buyer. It's something you need to pre-arrange, but if they refuse and insist upon the actual buyer collecting then that is their decision and something you can't go whinging to eBay about.
If you sent a courier and the seller turned them away you would be out of pocket (courier isn't going to refund you) and you have no grounds for a complaint. We have removed your signature - please contact the forum team if you are not sure why - Forum Team0 -
Why?
For collection, i would insist on cash despite Ebay insisting on Paypal as an option due to the INR scam.
Why even mention a relative collecting?
If you turn up, fine.
If a relative turns up posing as you, fine.
If a courier turns up who is definitely not you, then they can sling their hook.
Easier just to block you as a bidder than have hassle.
Were you expecting to Paypal or would the courier have the cash?0 -
If a mate of mine who works as a private courier turns up posing as me, fine, surely...
Some idiots just haven't caught onto shiply.com where you can specify, before you accept a courier's bid, the precise TIME and DATE that item is to be collected... it's not about waiting around for hours... some people need to get with the times. This isn't the 80s.0 -
If the courier will turn up at a specific time, and pay in cash*, then why did you bother telling the seller it was a courier collecting??? If the courier really is that accurate, then just say that you'll collect, and ask the courier to use your name.
(*most sellers want cash on collection)Should've = Should HAVE (not 'of')
Would've = Would HAVE (not 'of')
No, I am not perfect, but yes I do judge people on their use of basic English language. If you didn't know the above, then learn it! (If English is your second language, then you are forgiven!)0 -

he specified paypal only0 -
Then he's daft. Collection in person and paypal do not go well together, there is NO acceptable proof that you had collected.I'd rather be an Optimist and be proved wrong than a Pessimist and be proved right.0

yeah, he is daft.0
