Have an Iphone 4 that is locked to o2, was on a 12 month Tesco contract that has now expired. Interested in taking up a Sim only deal from Virgin (cheapest deal I have been offered) have cut sim to fit and tested in friends unlocked phone and it works fine. Not sure best way to get Iphone unlocked. Should I go to Apple or o2?

O2 is the best place to unlock the phone it is £15

You could also take it to a market stall or shop but will be more expensive.Nobody is Perfect. I am Nobody, therefore I am Perfect.0 -
It has to be Teco that arranges the unlocking. Yes, it is referred internally to O2 to arrange, but a Tesco customer needs to follow the correct channels, as O2 will not unlock a Tesco mobile directly.0

So even though contract has expired with Tesco I would need to speak to them? Do most stores deal with this or does anyone know if there is a number/email that I would be best to contact?Jan Grocery challenge

Have you tried YouTube?
I don't know if the iPhone 4 differs from the iPhone 3GS, but someone recommended i go to o2 & pay £15 for an unlock. Then someone else recommended i search YouTube & do it for free.
So i did the search, it looked easy ... it WAS easy, and therefore free. Job done & £15 saved.0 -
I think the problem may be trying to use a virgin sim. Is it possible to use virgin with IPhone/iTunes?Jan Grocery challenge

iPhone's are locked by a status in Apples database. They can be unlocked by unofficial means but there is always the chance they will be relocked or locked out by an upgrade to IOS later.
As long as the phone was out of contract with no issues Tesco should be able to request an unlock in Apples database and once the request is in to Apple then the next time the phone sync in iTunes it will be unlocked.
The sim n use is irrelevant the phone is locked that is the issue.0
