Paying Ryanair with vouchers

Options
If I pay for my Ryanair Flight with vouchers and then add a suitcase later will I still have to pay the card fees?

Comments

  • That's an interesting question.

You may already have seen that it is definitely the case that whether you pay card fees (or avoid them by using Ryanair's 'correct card') when you make the initial booking you will not be charged a fee later if you add a bag no matter what payment method you use. I can vouch for that myself.

I'd strongly suggest that this is good for your situation too since voucher payments are simply just another form of payment to the Ryanair website payments code but, as with most things Ryanair, you won't know for sure until you try it - do let us know how you get on :)

No you can pay for bag after booking a flight, and they don't charge a card fee, even when paying by credit card.

If you haven't bought them DONT. Theres just too many retrictions to make them a viable form of currency to buy flights (unless someone has given them to you)
    Vouchers are non-refundable.
There is a €5/£5 (or local currency equivalent) administration fee for processing the purchase of gift vouchers.
Vouchers can only be redeemed on https://www.ryanair.com.
Gift vouchers must be redeemed within 12 months (365 days) of the voucher issue date after which date the voucher becomes void.
Travel can take place up to 12 months from voucher issuance provided the voucher is redeemed within the validity period specified above
The validity of the vouchers cannot be extended.
Vouchers are issued in denominations of €25/€50 or local currency equivalent.
If a voucher is partially redeemed the remaining balance is void.
Vouchers are only valid for the person named as the voucher recipient. The voucher recipient must be passenger 1 during the flight booking process.
A maximum of 4 vouchers can be used to purchase a flight. If the total amount of ticket price exceeds the value of the voucher(s) any price difference must be paid by credit or/debit card.
Vouchers are only valid for the payment of Ryanair flights and any associated taxes, fees and charges.
Gift vouchers can only be redeemed in the currency of issue.
Name changes are not permitted when a reservation has been paid for using a gift voucher.
Gift vouchers cannot be used as payment if flight reservations include Car hire.

Why would anyone buy those gift vouchers?

I tend to agree but is it not a viable way for say a family of four buying expensive peak period flights to make a stab at avoiding the £48 worth of card fees? The "partially redeemed / remaining balance is void" part is a bit of a pain.

Thinking about it, maybe I agree with you completely jayok ... if you go to this much effort to avoid cardfees for an expensive family summer holiday then it might just be worth playing Ryanair's other game and getting the Cash Passport thing ... but then you have to pre-estimate how much you need to preload on the card because that has to be in minimum £150 lumps. Then you can't spend the balance without copping a 50p charge per transaction etc. etc...

It really is a hassle all round, eh?

But by booking singles, many returns are at Ryanair. 1 EURO = 1 GB£ so there's a potential 20% saving. The return sector except for Eire + Italy can still be FEE FREE with a normal PP Mastercard. So a family of 4 WITHOUT a RYANAIR CASH PASSPORT, can actually only pay £24 fees less the potential 20% Euro/GB£ savings
