Agreed that they are not really worth the money
The kit we tried (can't remember how much it was 'cause it was so long ago) cropped OK the first crop, but then the second crop were just itty bitty things that were hardly worth using, then no more after that.A friend is someone who overlooks your broken fence and admires the flowers in your garden.0 -
I've had a few of these kits and always had good results off them, I keep them in the cellar so they stay cool and damp. I don't really know if they are value for money but they are good fun.
If you split the spore mix between 2 containers would you get more mushrooms (i.e. do only a certain amount grow because they crowd the others out or something), or would you just get half as many from each one? When I had my loft converted back into a loft, the neighbours came around and scoffed, and called me retro.0 -
They had the kits in Focus (Blantyre) for £1.49 a few weeks back - may be worth checking your local store just in case.No Longer addicted to Boots! - Well not today anyway!! :blushing:

Great forum anyway, but in the gardening section, they have a couple of threads about growing mushrooms.“Pleasure of love lasts but a moment, pain of love lasts a lifetime.”0 -
My DH is obsessed with mushroom kits and so far we've eaten one huge white mushroom at a cost of.......(..all the kits that didn't work.......) about £25 quid, so just buy your mushies at the shop!Just call me Nodwah the thread killer0

Hi there everyone! I have just planted or sowed my mushroom spawns that i have bought from B&Q a month ago, I have done a 25% compost and 75% well rotted horse manure mixture to sow them in. I used the long plastic trough tub that you acn buy from the garden centre. Then as per the packet instructions, I have covered them with wet newspaper ( will then have to check for wetness). Hopefully, myecilia will start to appear in 14 days..Wish me luck and I will keep everyone posted regarding this. I have only planted one packet and kept the other one as another trial if all fails... Happy gardening!!!Sealed Pot Challenge 2012 #1502:)
