Getting a car seat fitted

We're looking to buy a Maxi Cosi Pebble and FamilyFix Isofix base for when our LO arrives (due in June but have been told to prepare for anytime from mid April and would like to spread the costs from now till then). We were quoted £150 for the Pebble and another £150 for the base from a local shop today, online Kiddicare has the Pebble at £120 and the base at £133 as well as a 5% off code saving us £51 in total (I think - late night maths). Do any of the companies such as Halfords or Mothercare fit car seats for free or a reasonable fee if you don't buy them from them? I don't want to fit it incorrectly for the sake of saving £50, but if I can save it obviously that would be great.

Mothercare will price match online/instores as long as the company has them in stock ie if kiddicare is cheaper they will match the price. Theres also a 10% off code for mothercare that ends this weekend I think it is.
Love is the answer. At least for most of the questions in my heart,
Like why are we here? And where do we go?And how come it's so hard?

Mothercare don't offer a car seat fitting service.

They will try a car seat in your car to make sure it fits, then let you buy it if it does, or show you yourself how to fit it using the carseat they have instore.

But they told us they can't fit carseats incase something goes wrong.

And that was my 5 year old DD's booster seat.

If I remember right, halfords only do it on seats bought from them. That's who we went to in the end.

Isofix is designed to be fitted by anyone. You don't need someone to fit it for you!!

Hi some councils offer car seat checks, so if you fit it yourself they wil check if for you, if you go to https://www.childcarseats.org.uk and put in your location it wil bring up your local councils and the services they offer.

5% of £253 is 12.50ish. Do you mean 25%? You need to test fit an Isofix and ensure it has type approval for your car. You can't trust the fitting guides. Toys r us will test fit.

I meant saving us £51 off the price we'd pay in the shop. The shop we were at yesterday came out and looked at our car and said it would take the isofix familyfix base, as does the Isofix website.

Thanks for the info on the council's - ours is really good it seems as they do seat checks, have a car seat advice helpline, check days etc.

With the maxi-cosi isofix base there are a couple of buttons that will be red if its fitted incorrectly and green if its fitted correctly - simples.

Don't know about the specific products you mention, but Halfords will fit any car seat they sell and you can watch them do it so you know what to do if you ever need to remove it for whatever reason.
  • Halfords fit the car seats and some Halfords stores will price match too (manager's discretion).

But as previously said, you don't need an Isofix seat fitted for you. I had the Pebble with the Isofix base too, and you just put it in yourself - that's the point really.
