No Claims Bonus & New Insurance Question

Hi all,
In Dec 2009 i had to sell my car due to being out of work in which i had my car insurance with the AA and paying monthley for this. At the time of the car sale i still had around 3 months left on the insurance to pay but was unable to make the outstanding payment of £79 due to being out of work but i had 5 Years No Claims Bonus which was not protected as i was under 25.
I am now looking to get a new car and was not sure if my No Claims Discount was still valid or not as i am told that its only valid for 2 years. As i did not pay up the outstanding amount would my NCB still be valid or not.
Also i am confused as to when these run out if they are still valid or not. Would they run out when i sold the car or when the insurance policy would have been up which should have been Feb 2010.
Many Thanks

I believe NOCD can be used up to 2 years if you didnt drive but maybe not all insurance companies as they all vary0

Hi, I think you are correct by the 2 years but i am not sure when the 2 years is up. Would it be 2 years from the start of the policy or end of the policy.
Also not sure how it works if if i did not fully finish the policy which was paid monthley0 -
Did you have 4 years NCD when you started the policy with the AA? If so you'll have only 4 years now because you didn't finish the year. The 2 years would start from the date on the NCD certificate/proof letter, which the AA presumably sent you in Dec 09 or shortly after?chrisb1357 wrote: »Hi, I think you are correct by the 2 years but i am not sure when the 2 years is up. I would say the end of the policy at a guesschrisb1357 wrote: »Hi, I think you are correct by the 2 years but i am not sure when the 2 years is up. Would it be 2 years from the start of the policy or end of the policy.

Feb 10 or Feb 09?chrisb1357 wrote: »I got a renew letter in Feb from them saying please keep this renew letter as proof of no claims which it states 5 years.0 -
If you failed to pay the final balance i think they will be reluctant to pass on the NCB details to anyone until thats settled.
You failed to pay the final payments so when did they cancel the policy?
If they cancelled it you need to declare that when getting quotes also.Censorship Reigns Supreme in Troll City...0 -
Hi
I had a letter on 23rd Jan 2010 saying that cover will cease on 31st Jan 2010. The policy should have ended 9th Feb 2010
The renewal letter i got was around 15th Jan which is the one that shows 5 years no claims but as i said i did not have the car anymore

I would have thought that letter would be sufficient for a new insurer, so 2 years from that date. I.e. buy insurance quick!chrisb1357 wrote: »Hi

Hi,
Still waiting for a letter from the AA Insurance about my no claims and if they cancled my policy or if i did.
Is it hard to get insurance if a policy has been cancled by an old insurance policy that i had. I have noticed on some sites that there is a tick box to say if you have had a policy stopped.
