    It looks like they are not going to be mandatory after all, which is nice :D

    I think thats a bit off, the installation of a smart meter costs no where near £340. for example a meter we supply for export metering costs the customer less than £150 including installation.

    £340 maybe for a commercial property.

    I think its arrived at by dividing the total expected costs of putting everyone on a 'smart' meter divided by the number of households.

    I've had smart meters for Gas and Electricity for about a year.

    The SIM in it works, because the meter readings get logged on my account each month.

    No one has used my power usage pattern information to break in.

    It doesn't appear to cause me to be billed at any higher rate than my 10 year old previous meters.

    It does give me nice bar charts of my usage, and stops me having to go outside to read the meters to avoid estimated bills.
